Thursday finally saw some clear air for Nine’s competitors with no Olympics and no Ultimate Social Experiment to contend with.

Seven took advantage with the three episodes of Home and Away coming in as the top entertainment offerings on the day. Episode one with 837k ranked fifth ahead of episode two with 751k and episode three with 732k.

For Nine itself, a new episode of RBT had 625k to rank third in the timeslot but still make the top 10. On 10, the second episode of Gogglebox’s new season edged up to 548k compared to 539k for the season opener and 571k for the equivalent episode last year. Grand Designs Transformations at 8pmm on ABC was also up 20k to 442k.

Later, Seven’s movie was Notting Hill that averaged 335k was beaten by that Nine offered two Murder Down Under repeat episodes that did well to get 448k.

The Graham Norton Show on 10 got a 40k boost with less competition to 241k while on ABC, it was the season final of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job with 313k.

The 6pm news battle was another close one with Seven News ahead by 70k. Earlier Tipping Point won at 5pm by 130k.

Following was A Current Affair on 937k had a comfortable lead over ABC News that had 889k. Millionaire Hot Seat, meanwhile, continued its improved week to manage 275k, for its fourth consecutive top 30 ranking.

Sunrise with well to lift to 424k at the expenses of Today that dropped to 318k.

TOTAL PEOPLE WIN FOR NINE

  • 9News was the No. 1 news bulletin with Total People across the 5 City Metro and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The combined national bulletins registered a National Total TV Reach of 1.935 million and a Total TV National Audience of 1.201 million , up 10.5% on the same night last year. On 9Now, its BVOD audience of 167,000 was up 70.4% year-on-year.

  • A Current Affair dominated the 7.00pm timeslot with Total People and all key demos across Australia.It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.442 million and a Total TV National Audience of 937,000 . On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD audience of 123,000 , up 53.8% on the same night last year.

  • RBT won the 7.30pm timeslot with Total People and all key demos across Australia.It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 1.386 million and a Total TV National Audience of 625,000 . On 9Now, it recorded a BVOD audience of 77,000 .

  • Tipping Point Australia was the No. 1 afternoon game show with Total People and all key demos across Australia. It secured a National Total TV Reach of 1.342 million and a Total TV National Audience of 711,000 , up 10.6% year-on-year. It recorded a BVOD audience of 97,000 , lifting the timeslot by 79.6% compared to the same day last year.

  • Today secured a National Total TV Reach of 823,000 and a BVOD audience of 56,000 , up 43.6% on the same morning last year.

  • The 9Network was the No.1 network on Thursday across the 5 City Metro with Total People and all key demos.

  • 9Now was the No.1 CFTA BVOD Platform on Thursday across Australia with Total People and all key demos.

Hope you find something in this different look at the numbers outside (and inside) the real top 30.

Both Seven and Nine peak at 6pm and gradually reduce across prime time. ABC its from 7pm. 10 has to start building from 6pm to peak at 7.30pm. SBS fluctuates across the night.

Nine won the east coast with Seven back to winning Adelaide and Perth.

10 was second in key broadcast and Total TV demos. 10 wins Adelaide in the demos!

Seven News closed the gap at 6pm to 63,000.

The Chase has another bad day in Brisbane - just staying ahead of 10 News and at just 40% of the audience of Tipping Point.

Today wins the east coast with Sunrise 3rd in Melbourne for the 2nd consecutive day - Melbourne has Sunrise’s 2nd lowest audience. However, Today underperforms in Perth and Adelaide to see Sunrise win overall.

the above “Brisbane” figures include the Gold Coast - ie. Chase is against the second half of TP and Nine Gold Coast news at 5:30pm which any local knows is an institution. Hence the weird difference in numbers compared to the other cities

No doubt TP is doing a fabulous job, but Seven’s new owners absolutely must bring back a local GC news to compete at 5:30 otherwise this gap will not change regardless of what show they are airing at 5-6pm. Ditching the local news (was this under de Ceglie?) was a big mistake

This time last year 10 News was showing signs of momentum but this year seems to be taking a step back. I think the lose of The Project and the launch of 10 News + might be having some sort to play.

Home and Away did very well without Married at First Sight - with their three episodes easily making the top 10.

Am surprised that people still watch RBT on Nine. It’s more of a filler type of program these days.

I liked the added rundown table - of how each main channel is doing from 6pm until midnight-ish. Something different.
