Agreed, all the key info can be provided with a couple of reports and a live cross.
Ramping up the overkill is 7 News who are running rolling coverage across the day for an event that has already taken place

Days like today is exactly why networks ensure their news division is in-house (or at the very least in the case of ITV & ITN, ensure that the company you outsource news operations to has the ability to break into programming and/or provide breaking news/special coverage when needed)âŚ

When I first heard about this story I went to the NY Times and BBC online. Didnât even think about turning the TV on. I think weâve reached a point now where breaking into programming isnât as critical as it once was. (Exceptions for civil defence emergencies⌠maybe).

Stuff already had it covered online in spades - would imagine they prioritized the online content rather than TV, even with ThreeNews now being a thing. Expect a lot of carryover.

That being said I assume that if/when they have their own newsroom studio it may increase the ability to do this (at least on weekday afternoons when presenting and studio staff are in).

Possibly - is that above and beyond the fee WBD is paying for etc. are there provisions for ârolling coverageâ in the contractâŚnot really clear

Itâs moments like this I miss Newshub, I know they would of went with rolling coverage and forced TVNZ to act and start coverage. Now that thereâs only one game in town they give half arse coverage. Surprised the CNN FAST channel on ThreeNow wasnât used to simulcast CNN rolling coverage.

A slightly silly situation unfolding as TVNZ crosses to a CNN correspondent while using their pictures throughout. CNN, of course, being owned by WBD.
Meanwhile, WBDâs Three News doesnât have access to CNN pictures or correspondents, whilst being situated next to CNN Fast on the Three Now live carousel.

CNN Fast doesnât have any live news - itâs essentially a carousel of short, pre-recorded clips. Iâm a bit surprised ThreeNow doesnât carry CNN International - itâs carried as a FAST channel on some other services.

The US presidential debate was live on their, so I donât get why Sundays assassination attempt wasnât switched from FAST to rolling news.

That debate was a special case, shown across every single CNN outlet (as well as virtually every other news channel in America). I suspect there are contractual reasons as to why CNN Fast canât show rolling news. I think itâs kind of the âcheapâ version of CNN, showing clips of stuff after itâs been shown on CNN proper.

Three could carry CNN proper if it wanted to in breaking news events, it chose not to.

Why should have they shown it? The story was practically over by the time it broke. Thereâs enough news from the US as it is, we donât need rolling coverage of every event that happens, especially overseas. Weâre a tiny pipsquweak nation at the bottom of the world, it doesnât matter whoâs the US President, they all treat us like hobbits.
Besides, it was Sunday, +HR=E have sports shows (that might actually help pay their bills).
I thought the first block of a 30 minute bulletin was about right. At that time, there wasnât any more to tell.
