Amazing presentation, Sam did a super anchoring. May it only grow, prove WBD wrong about News & Current Affairs, and they’re forced for a relook at the schedule in 2025.

I feel like the video wall that’s used for sport and weather, looked quite pixelated.

It was extremely.

I feel like it needs to be zoomed in a bit more and be angled slightly to be able to see the weather a bit more

The text on the video wall is nowhere near as clear as the rest of the captions; not high enough resolution.

They should have just gone old school green screen with the weather. I wish 1 news would go back old school too.

Full 8th July bulletin as Samantha Hayes leads her first ThreeNews.

Still blown away by the quality of this virtual set. Easily better than the old Newshub look.

Can’t wait to see the improvements they make over time.

I’ve never really been a tv 3/newshub/3 news guy but I can’t find any major faults in the product they’re offering.

One thing that’s bugging me now is that the presenters seem out of focus compared to the backgrounds.

A pop up poll graphic during a story “Should gangs still be permitted to wear patches for ceremonial purposes?” then the result at the end of the bulletin is nice and subtle but good way to integrate Stuff

“innovative opportunities for audience engagement and participation” - did have me thinking of the very early Seven Sharp days lol.

Good interview with Grant Dalton from Sam - felt much less stilted than the usual 6pm ivs.

Sorry, it may have been raised earlier in the thread, but no sign-offs in stories by the looks? (I haven’t been able to sit down and watch a full broadcast yet, only the greatly appreciated clips in this thread).

Very old-school! To this day, a lot of newscasts in Europe don’t bother with reporter sign-offs.

Innovation and freshness? No. If anything the production has a slight retro look. If you don’t count the quiz question and poll (which have been tried before) the bulletins have been devoid of new ideas.

The studio they are being presented out of is a small area off to the side of what was the main news studio at Three’s Flower Street headquarters. The big studio and its giant, hi-tech screen are being de-rigged as Warners get ready to exit the building.

The small studio is limiting. The graphics screen which looks like an oversized iPhone on the right side of the presenter dominates too much and creates an unbalanced look.

The graphics, particularly those used to fill the screens during the wide shots that show Samantha Hayes and sports presenter Ollie Richie together, are way too busy and unsophisticated.

Someone on social media described the computer-generated set behind the presenter as looking like “a corrections facility”. It is an apt description. The set looks cheap and that’s because it is. Warners wanted a low-cost alternative to Newshub and that’s what they’ve got.

Of course it is early days and the fresh, innovative approach promised by Boucher may yet come.

Someone’s definitely sour. This production looks cleaner than the mishmash from the last studio.

I guess Mark is qualified to make this assessment with his experience and insider knowledge. I also didn’t realise until last week Newsroom pitched its own bulletin for WBD.

I think that is why I like the bulletin so far, in many ways its picked up where Newhub left off, same format, same presenters, same reporters. But if that’s the formula they picked, then any promised innovation was quickly dropped or was just positive PR. I caught that interview with Grant Dalton last night, and thought it was painful and reeked of ‘sponsored content’ that Sam had to pad out to fulfil the deal.

The virtual set isn’t too bad and I would rather have that instead of a simple 1 shot green screen. Plenty of hideous graphics and sets during the Mark Jennings era. I would be surprised if the set changes when they move from Flower St.

The set isn’t great but at least it isn’t full of flowers and trees and other rubbish that makes it look like it’s shot on a tropic island.

Jennings needs to let go of Three News, he didn’t get the contact, there’s a business reason for it. What has aired so far, is that it serves the purpose for WBD & news viewers at 6pm. It will grow & change, only 4 shows to date.

One wonders if he wanted the News First contract as well but I guess it wasn’t as attractive as WBD’s.

After watching The Cheap Seats, I thought there would be more discussion about fruit
