The Weakest Link

To be honest I don’t even remember who else appeared on that lifestyle special apart from Aristos and Tom Williams.

I think Magda Szubanski is a fine choice as host, not the best but I’m willing to give her a good chance.
I’ve seen a few episodes of the US revival hosted by Jane Lynch, she does a great job, where she manages a fine balance between wickedness and hilarity.
Overall, can’t wait to see the new iteration on Nine.

There was a promo for The Weakest Link on Nine last night in Melbourne (either towards the end of MAFS or near the start of that Royal Crown Special). Not sure if it was a call out for contestants or early hype, as I only caught the very end of it which had The Weakest Link logo on the screen. They seem to be wasting no time with this.

It’s very clear Magda will be more a comedic “mean” host than the hard line headmaster that Cornelia was.
It’ll be a different tone.

I actually prefer the tone of the more comedic and sarcastic approach being taken by Jane Lynch. She’s still stern but there are plenty of LOL moments. She enjoys being playful with the contestants. For example, she had to leave her podium to chase one out of the studio who refused to leave and chastised another who incorrectly answered a question when Jane Lynch was the answer to it.

The first promos are airing across Nine… so we should expect to see the first show within weeks/months?

“Coming soon” - whatever that means.

Should Nine pick up the American version and play it and see how it rates?

No, they definitely should not.

Agree with this completely. It’s been proven time and time again that overseas versions of particular franchises never really works on FTA (Got Talent, Masked Singer USA etc).

Plus why would you take the gloss off the local version by airing another version? It would just be stupid and pointless.

Overkill comes to mind immediately.

Nine should just do the local version and be done with it. If they ever want to have the US version then it should be on 9Go.

If Nine did option the US version, it could go to streaming on 9Now or one of their multi-channels outside of the new local version being on-air.

A new promo went to air yesterday during Tipping Point that went something among the lines of -

“The worldwide phenomenon… IS BACK!”

It also features that iconic phrase voiced slowly by Magda Szubanski.

I also really do hope that they adopt the modern theme and the rules seen in the US.

Channel 7 have both The Chase AU and The Chase UK, while Channel 9 have Tipping Point UK, while it is unclear if a local version will be made. @Tom_TV7

Not my point. My point was about how having the US version wouldn’t be beneficial to the local edition as it over-exposes the format. The Chase UK and The Chase Australia is already a bit of an overkill these days.
