Homer finally blows up the nuclear power plant in yet another OH&S incident?
At this point would anyone really notice if they stopped producing new episodes? There’s only so many times you can repeat the same old jokes and ideas.

Only the die-hard fans would notice.
The show should have finished after season 10.
I cite Season 9’s “The Principal and the Pauper” as the turning point.
My local cinema had Simpsons Trivia a few years ago, and they only went from seasons 1 to 11. Guess they pointed out the increasing number of less-memorable plots starting from around season 12-13, and obviously no causal fan would ever be able to answer questions about more recent episodes!
Just get Kunal Nayyar to do the voice if it keeps the SJWs happy.
Who knows what crazy adventures they’ll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable…
But the rest of Season 9 was classic. Not one bad episode afterwards imo.
Season 11 was my turning point. Although i reckon Simpsons episodes get better with age. Season 11-20 isn’t so bad anymore. ![]()
Seasons 10-12 were fairly forgettable, but S13 was great.
S14 onwards, on the other hand…
just don’t look, just don’t look
I’ve only ever watched one full episode. It was set in Australia. Terrible.
There’s a petition starting to have you deported to New Zealand.
I’ve realised that modern Simpsons is a kids cartoon with too many in-jokes for the writers and producers. Every story is so cartoonish, the focus is on the kids and silly jokes, no story development. Plus in 16:9 HD it looks gross, too bright and too much detail in the backgrounds.
Also good timing with airing a cruise ship pandemic episode 7Flix.
Story development hasn’t been great for The Simpsons for a long time, in my opinion its been like this since probably around Season 9 from my viewing perspective.
Add to that the show’s over-reliance on guest stars and The Simpsons trying to stay relevant.
No shows, apart from soaps, are meant to last 30 plus years and even then, the characters are more often than not, there for a maximum of a decade bar some lifers. It should have been wound down in the early 2000s.
There’s only so many stories you can do with a group of 5 characters that can’t age up or down (apart from format bending specials). Add to that, the writing got noticeably weaker around season 9.
The Simpsons produced some of the greatest half hours of TV, but ultimately has more mediocre or worse episodes than good because no-one was willing to pull the plug.
I’ve seen the “season 9 / season 10” thing referenced a lot, but I reckon some episodes from 2000 to around about 2006 are also really good. Went further downhill around the time of The Simpsons Movie and especially when then opening theme changed in 2008/2009 (though a few epsiodes in that 20th anniversary season are memorable too).
Like a lot of American series, it’s just dragged on for far too long.
At least MASH knew when to call it a day.
