Certainly not, but to suggest they are failure shows after so many years on air, and Sarah has had a hand on that is nonsense. Their lifespan as come to a natural end simply put. Their audience isnât there anymore for multiple reasons.
No Sarah isnât to blame. But, like I said at the time, throwing out multiple people from your lineup to try and appease news.com.and replace them with lesser known presenters/comedians wasnât going to work. The people who already watched The Project didnât have a problem with the previous lineup. So, the change risked alienating their existing audience. I have no doubt that Sarahâs appointment was a last ditch attempt to look like they were âbalancingâ out the show. It was strategic.
Maybe Rob would want to come in on this? He left as EP and the new one changed it completely. Donât get me wrong I like Tristan as a person but all the changes and people leaving like Sarah is what killed the show.
I still think Ten could do a proper breakfast show to rival Sunrise and Today now. They just need the right team and a point of difference.
For my 2c I would say The Project and Studio 10 were both a success. While I wasnât a fan of The Project in its later years, you cannot deny the impact it had on our culture. The same for Studio 10. In its first 5 years it had overtaken nine and was often written about. The show suffered when they changed the format.
The same for The Project.
But both had an element of success and that is undeniable.
They have announced their guests for the final week.
Pete and Gorgi Cog on Thu and Charlie, Carrie, Tommy and Dave on Friday.
It is officially the final week of The Project.
Last Sunday episode tonight - with big news happening abroad. Will be interesting to see how the show goes.
Canât believe itâs here already! Thisâll be a pretty sad week for FTA, all jokes aside, true end of an Australian television era, one which has spread across nearly a generation and lasted numerous major management, contract and content changes, not just at 10 but across FTA network TV, just look at what was airing back in 2009 including Ten, let alone world events and our society in general. Possibly one of the final peak broadcast television years too.
Iâll be tuning-in, havenât watched since pre-COVID and Lisa Wilkinsonâs early period and not regularly since mid-2010s, often then just the final 30min or 10min before MasterChef back when I used to enjoy that, I enjoyed Projectâs properly in the early â7pmâ days. Letâs hope it delves deep into its history and nostalgia across this week, rather than purely day to day normal episodes covering todays news. Especially early year highlights, clips and interviews and fab to see the original trio coming back together for the final.
I also hope 10 market it well this week, including online, radio and print media and that other media will discuss it, namely the final ep. Not holding out much hope for that nor a big audience number, but would be fantastic, sort of like with Neighbours a couple of years ago, to have a big turn-out and get all the old viewers back one last time to bid them farewell.
Might have to toast with a glass of something come weekâs end ![]()
I agree - where possible, throw in classic moments (I.e. clips when going to/returning from breaks).
And hopefully 10 promote the hell out of the final episode like they did for Neighbours.
Crack out the Penfolds.
Letâs just be sensible here. Neighbours is/was a long running drama of 30+ years. The Project has nothing on Neighbours.
I can assure you Ten could not care how many people tune in for the final episode. Itâs over.
I doubt they promote it too much. They are probably actually hoping for low audience numbers, so next week they can put out releases about 10 News+ being a successful replacement when it gets bigger ratings.
Surely not. They need the viewers this week to promote the replacement.
Hamish mustâve quietly finished with the show when he last appeared. Waleed hosting the final Sunday.
Heâs been on leave that was planned for sometime in advance prior to the show being axed, so I guess he just got unlucky.
Surely theyâre not going to promote it any more than they would normally - why would you increase the promotion of the last rites of a show that youâve brutally axed?
Theyâre probably better off bombarding viewers outside of the hour The Project is one with a promo for News plus
Well theyâre doing neither. They havenât been bombarding anywhere. Youâre lucky to see one promo an hour. Youâd think theyâd be rotating it more.
I was surprised to see one promo on fb had 453k views.
Hamish must be paid per appearance surely.
