Fantastic news! She was absolutely awful on the project.

Her speech sounded quite bitter and sad. Doesn’t sound like it was her decision.

Harsh. @tvnews

Completely agree. Especially given how sudden this is with tonight being her last show.

But what would you replace it with? Nothing else they have tried in that timeslot rated. And its too early to start your reality shows at 6.30pm.

Yeah mate that was a bit different. This is leaving a program not the network.

I think it’s safe to say The Project is at a turning point. Expect big changes next year. As for Lisa, I wish her all the best for the future.

It’s giving me flashbacks of 2017.

So what’s Lisa going to be doing at Ten next year? It’s not as if they produce special investigation/current affair type shows like Seven and Nine do.

Good luck Lisa.

Despite the show’s low total people ratings, it is still often one of 10’s top performers and even their highest rated show of the night - this Thursday for example.

With the announcement of Neighbours coming back maybe that might slip into the slot?

Statement From Network 10 And Beverley McGarvey,

Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, Paramount Australia and News Zealand.

From a Network 10 spokesperson:

“Network 10 would like to confirm that Lisa Wilkinson has tonight announced that she is stepping away from The Project effective immediately.

“Lisa has been a wonderful host and important contributor to The Project for five years and as the end of the year approaches, Lisa feels it is the right time for her to take a break. We look forward to her continued work with the network in 2023, where we can capitalise, particularly, on her superb interviewing skills.”

From Beverley McGarvey, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, Paramount Australia and New Zealand:

“I would like to sincerely thank Lisa Wilkinson for her outstanding contribution to The Sunday Project and The Project. For five years now Lisa has brought experience and professionalism, as well as her signature warmth, compassion and integrity to both shows.

“In her time with the show she has continued to expose, present and report on a variety of ground-breaking and Walkley-nominated stories, both from the studio and out on the road. I know it is a role that Lisa has loved and embraced from day one.

“Lisa has brought her trademark intelligence, humour, empathy and sense of justice to everything she has done, and it is no surprise audiences have continued to welcome her into their loungerooms and onto their screens.

“I know she will be sorely missed both by our audience, and the entire Project team, and whilst we are saddened that Lisa will no longer be on The Project, we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Lisa into 2023 and beyond.”

And now The Project doesn’t rate there either. You can’t just leave it there. It’s destroying primetime.

This was going to be my point. Whilst those who read News Corp and other extreme right wing media want to see the demise of this show, the reality is that more often than not it rates more than other show on 10, often it’s highest rating of the night. If they got rid of it whatever they put there wouldn’t rate at all. The other fact remains that it make money for the network. Eg. If the show costs 10million annually to produce and brings in 12 million in in revenue then it makes a profit. They’re not going to get rid of it.

And Lisa is right… she’s been targeted relentlessly by The Australian and other sources and much of it has been horrendous. She’s somewhat thick skinned but some of that stuff from The Australian and Sky is vile, like much of their readers and viewers.

Bit unfortunate for Lisa to be going out on the back of a very ordinary year reputation-wise. Not that I blame her, and of course she’s not exactly desperate for money (like Karl was a few years back).

She’s probably the next Ita Buttrose and will no doubt continue to have a significant profile in the years to come.

There is no evidence of this given it at times out rates what follows it. If you can pin point statistically your comments then people might take your hyperbolic comments seriously.

But that wont be ready until mid-late 2023…

The ratings speak for themselves.

Did you listen to the video? That’s the reason she’s going. Because of the abuse her family has received post all that has happened.

So then 10 would just air a test pattern over portions of the year given it outrates most of their prime time line up.

Have you analysed the demos, the VOZ reports, the cost of the program versus the revenue?

Basing your analysis on nightly ratings isn’t the whole picture.
