That’s probably what they thought but even a clip or two from the “olden days” would have been good for a few LOLs.
The Australian is reporting that 10 will announce potentially this week that Hamish Macdonald will be joining The Project from September:
The Australian can reveal that as part of the deal, the Sydney-based Macdonald will join Lisa Wilkinson in co-hosting Ten’s The Sunday Project as well as the program’s Friday night edition.
It is understood Macdonald will take on an extra role as a roving reporter for The Project, and conduct “special investigations” and documentaries.
There could also be scope for Macdonald to host a Thursday night version of the show with Wilkinson from Sydney in future if the Melbourne-based Waleed Aly ever chose to follow Carrie Bickmore’s lead and cut back from four to three nights a week on hosting The Project.
This move has been prompted following a request made by Peter van Onselen a few months ago that he wanted to reclaim his weekends by cutting back on his Project commitments.
Let’s hope he also has more a network correspondent role on big news events etc.
Shouldn’t that be ‘Hamish MacDonald rejoining’ or ‘returning’ to 10 and The Project instead of joining them as if he wasn’t a permanent fixture on the show ages ago?
Good move nonetheless if true. Hamish is way better than PVO. PVO makes the show feel too serious.
Yes. If you’re being pedantic.
I hope Georgie Tunny apoears more regularly on The Project also. I do hope that Gorgi returns more regularly also. I don’t mind Rachael Corbett. Am still not convinced on Jan Fran in the hosting role though…
How often does Carrie Bickmore appear per week on the show? Is it all over the place?
3 days per week, Monday to Wednesday.
It has been very consistent this year. Aside from the odd random like Jan Fran actually hosting. But that is more about Lisa being not available Thur-Sun on occasion.
Looks like Hamish Macdonald is rejoining the Project, also sighting “other major projects”. Good pickup for the Sunday program.
Confirmed that Hamish is in, PVO is out.
I say this as an outsider looking in who doesn’t watch a whole lot of The Project or Q&A, however I’m surprised that networks even want a bar of Hamish given his track record now for coming and going and coming and going so often. How unreliable for an employer. At the rate he’s going, he’ll be off somewhere else in 18 months.
Believe it or not people change jobs all the time for different reasons. For as long as they’re not tied up firmly people have th choice and freedom to move on. Hamish was a freelancer in his first stint of The Project so he wasn’t exactly contractually obligated to stay on that show.
Perhaps Hamish did Q&A and thought it wasn’t his thing and is going back to familiar stomping grounds of The Project which is welcoming him back.
Of course. If The Project wanted him back, then that’s great. But I doubt he’ll be welcomed back at the ABC anytime soon after leaving them so suddenly. I just think it makes someone less marketable if they’re changing jobs at such a high rate/returning to the same job for the third time now.
Ok, that’s interesting, I barely ever watch The Project so I didn’t know.

has PVO been bumped off?
This is interesting. New ideas and programming sounds good, especially if it has to do with news & current affairs. Good to see them mention streaming platforms too, we could see original series commissioned for Paramount+ etc.
10 News Late?
(Dreaming)
At his request. See above TV Tonight article.
it doesn’t say PVO asked for it, it just says that he will continue to be political editor?
Sorry, I meant to say the Australian article above.
