It needs to have that fish out of water aspect as well as the masks. Last year we knew who every singer
was before the reveal. Why do we have professional singers on this at all?
Not only does it ruin the reveals but there’s no journey or improvement in their voice week to week - that’s what makes Dancing With The Stars such a good show.
The shows have different objectives. On The Masked Singer, they’re not being mentored by a professional singer to improve. It’s all about the performance and the mystery.
It’s fun because some of the people aren’t professional and can perform as well as some of the professionals involved.
I’ve been surprised by 3/4 reveals so far. Christine Anu is the only one that I wasn’t completely shocked by because I had suspected her. It wasn’t clear cut to everyone though as Lauren Burnes was trending on Twitter during the episodes as a lot of people thought it was her.
The show is sometimes more fun when you suspect someone as then you try and match the new clues to that person and sometimes they can then even throw you off track. Then there is some fun when you don’t know as well. I think this year has good balance and they are definitely harder than last year. Without googling a lot or reading forums like this it would be hard for the average person guess some of the contestants at this point.
I think you are failing to understand the point of the show. It is a guessing show. It’s a bit of fun. It’s not meant to be about a journey or improvement. I would get very bored if it was all bad singers in costumes.
Sophie Monk is a Hollywood star and I think there is a good chance that she is the Dragonfly.
The clues are quite cryptic but some can link back to her. There’s one about being a “triple threat? Quadruple? Quintuple?” which could relate to her having done many things from singing, to movies, to radio, to hosting TV shows, to reality TV etc. There was a Titanic reference in one of the clues and on youtube theres a video of one of her Popstars auditions where she’s singing My Heart Will Go On. The clues on making tumbles in life, being embarrassed but laughing and moving on… that seems to fit Sophie’s personality. Given the show also supposedly has a Hollywood star I’m leaning towards it being her.
I think the bad performances would add to the comedy of it all in the first weeks. Mark Philippoussis and Michael Bevan had decent voices but can’t compete with the mostly actual singers that are left.
Look at It Takes Two. Good celebrity voices still make the show work and they don’t need to be known singers.
Wasn’t it stated that after The Bachelorette and her subsequent Project experience, Sophie wasn’t interested in working with 10 anymore on any shows? Could’ve just been chatter at the time.
Given that things are probably fairly quiet for her this year with Love Island postponed or not going ahead, she probably has enough time and it seems like the kinda out there thing that she would do.
Also Katie Noonan said she tried to disguise her voice so it was more fun for the audience and look how that turned out. Bonnie Anderson is going to be such a let down, most people only know her from Neighbours and even that’s not a high rating show.
The difference with It Takes Two though is that they were paired with professionals which made the bad ones bearable. Plus they were coached over weeks and it was all about growth whereas the season of Masked Singer is filmed in a couple of weeks. I’m fine with some bad ones in there for comedy and to broaden the guessing criteria but I would still prefer to have more cast members in there that can sing.
Yeah there are some things going against her too. I didn’t know about the Ten stuff and it’s possible she is still contracted to Nine (or maybe not if Love Island isn’t happening?). Also she has made it pretty clear that she doesn’t have plans to sing again so would she do this?
I would never in my life guess her and like I mentioned above a lot of my friends think it’s Mauboy off the voice. So yeah if it is Bonnie it will be a bit of a letdown.
