The Latest (2018-2024)

Yeah, the show started using them when it aired at 7pm in March/early April for a few weeks

Don’t really like them to be honest. Much prefer the previous format - especially the opening shot with the pictures of the day being shown across all of the big screens

Which one do you think looks better (just want to hear your opinion).

I prefer the first but picked the second because I liked the graphics package they used back then (which worked well with that backdrop)

I agree @Leo_Puglisi6 it felt different to a standard opener!
In my opinion, The Latest when it first started felt fresh and exciting. It is well presented news and also aired at a good time for someone like me who doesn’t always see the 6pm news. Some changes are good but many changes they have made just annoy me.

I can’t pick, I like both.

I don’t know what the heck the second backdrop is.

The second one looks like a daytime backdrop. Doesn’t work for The Latest at that time of night.

Well, if you have your screen brightness at full, it looks like that

Last night Michael Usher hosted the Austic special followed by a mini edition of The Latest for a few minutes:

Mel hosting.
Reverted back to the original opener.

Sharyn Ghidella told us at the end of the Qld 6pm bulletin to join Michael Usher for The Latest. Thought that was strange. Mel is in fact hosting tonight.

Believe either it was a miscommunication or a simple error by Sharyn.

Probably a script error

With the return of AFL to Seven’s schedule, the Saturday bulletin of The Latest is out. Now seen Monday - Thursday.

Maybe 7 should cut their weekend bulletins to 30mins and then schedule The Latest from 6.30-7.30. Saturday could feature lighter stories and Sunday more investigative Sunday Night-style. Just an idea to capitalise on the 7News lead in and hold viewers from switching channels at 7.00.
Just a thought.

Hasn’t The Latest been rating much lower than the news though? Doesn’t make sense to cut the successful bulletin for the less successful one.

Depends if 6.30 rates lower than 6.00.

It does but The Latest at 7pm was rating much lower.
