Why not try out Angie Asimus when she comes back or Angela Cox? It seems Seven is determined to keep Mel Doyle in this position, I wonder for what?
Perhaps to give her something to do at the network now that Sunday Night is in the history books? That’s what I think.
I’d also like to think that Angela Cox will act in Eddy’s position on Sunrise (that is, entertainment presenter and back-up news presenter) until the latter returns from her maternity leave.
So isn’t the question; who’s better solo on The Latest - Doyle or Usher?
Shaun White presented todays Facebook Watch edition of The Latest
Mel is frankly one of the very best LIVE news anchors in the country. As is Usher. Don’t know what the problem is. They’re both on the air a lot at the moment.
Only other comparable to them IMO: Karl, Rowland, Riminton, Nat Barr, Kochie, Grimshaw (hasn’t really done it for years) and Amor. (mods feel free to split this into a more relevant thread if need be - I’m new -
but fired up)
Right that’s settled then lol.
Mel is great but Usher clearly had a huge influence in developing The Latest and it is his editorial and creative outlet so will always be his bulletin for me personally.
But I like both!
have to say was great watching Mel solo
I wonder if Seven will continue friday latest when afl is back
In every other country I know the “late” news airs Friday’s too. I don’t know why I’m Australia they all take the night off
It could be a cultural thing? Obviously it’s not so valid in the current landscape where almost everything’s shut down and we’re all being told to stay at home wherever possible, but Australia does have a thing treating Friday night as “the start of the weekend”!
Don’t ABC, SBS and ABC News have the Late News on Friday nights…
But I agree that the 3 commercial television stations should have a late news on Friday nights. Especially now since there is no footy (AFL + NRL). The timing is for The Latest to at least continue on Friday nights until the AFL starts. Even air it after Better Homes and Gardens? Instead of the movie?
Hmmmm, I‘ve lived in USA, UK, Spain and Oz. Of all those countries Aussies are more likely then anyone to be home on a Friday night. Australia is a very suburban country.
I think it’s more aussie networks just don’t care enough
What about Friday Night Football? Is (well, was with everything going on at the moment) that a thing overseas or something unique to Australia?
Either way, I reckon there’s got to be something behind the reasons Australian TV networks do the things they do other than “just because”!
There is usually sport being played / broadcast on Friday Nights.
Also, most of the weekday crews have left or gone home for the weekend.
I think its fantastic (after a decade) to see Seven and Nine relaunch late night news again.
Seven or Nine are only airing FNF to half the country on any given Friday night, the other half normally has a movie or drama Repeats. So news should go after the movie and after the footy in those markets
Crews would stay. Just like the do on other nights. Obviously
You just have to look at the ratings for shows that run five nights a week to see that ratings drop off on Fridays: News, A Current Affair, Neighbours etc.
Maybe not everyone goes out on Friday nights but many do and a lot of people obviously do other things that night. The television ratings reflect that.
This Saturday evening
So what if it is 50/50. What’s wrong with that? A lot of people would like both.
