Sorry to go off topic but why did the show flop so bad? Was it too much breakfast-esque content in the wrong timeslot?
Maybe a lack of chemistry between the hosts. Andrew Daddo can be a bit awkward at times and Mark Ferguson had just been demoted from 6pm newsreader and never really looked happy to be there. This was not long before his contract ended with Nine and he jumped to Seven.
I’ve seen another YouTube clip from the end of an episode of the first week where Andrew Daddo was trying to banter and it looked rather awkward. I see Kylie Speer also joined the panel later in each show.
Daddo is dreadful, and clearly Mark was on the way out and wanted no part.
Mark is dull all the time. It’s not that he just wasn’t interested because he was leaving.
Jesus, watching that clip I can see why it flopped.
The idea was good - kind of. Execution was woeful.
You could probably try it again and extend the Today brand (even) further.
Live at 5 already pioneered that format rather well, and Nine already screwed that up once.
Jesus that was shocking
I’ve heard him on radio and he can be quite funny. But as a newsreader, I think he’s always wary about not looking silly, so could be quite reserved on camera. I mean Daddo’s small talk there was awful, so I can understand him not wanting to embarrass himself by getting involved in that.
Sevens 4.30 News was very popular at the time. Most people were looking for a straight news format. The morning news format didn’t prove popular at that time of the day.
Also forgot to mention the introduction of The Midday News that took many resources from The Latest.
Bring back The Latest in its original form.
