Um… They have two of the network’s highest paid presenters, their own Sunrise news bulletins, local morning and afternoon news bulletins, plus doing The Latest. Maybe we should give Perth their own seven news channel?
Or give them their own local Sunrise and Morning Show first, then a local spotlight.
The local bulletins are necessary due to the time difference and the general irrelevance of eastern states news to WA. Almost no one wants to watch a 3 hour old morning news bulletin with out of date “breaking news” from Sydney.
The staff are already there anyway so they are making good use of them. They’re not really spending much extra to do those. Sunrise news being the exception since they weren’t doing that before and didn’t have staff around that early so I will grant you that one.
The Latest was a network cost saving measure making use of staff who are already there earlier in the day.
What I was saying was that when TVW moved to Osborne Park they did it on the cheap. The old set was ten times better than what they have now. They should have just packed it up and moved it. Instead they got a tiny studio tacked on the front of the existing WAN building with a green wall and a virtual set “powered” by a severely under-powered system.
They did this because they were so far ahead in the ratings that it didn’t matter. But now, for the first time in decades, there is some competition. Full credit to Nine for investing in STW and keeping up the pressure. Taking viewers away from TVW is not easy but we are beginning to see movement and the bean counters at Seven can’t ignore that for long.
The other states all have mostly decent sets. The virtual set and that ridiculous desk need to go, but if they insist on keeping it they at least need to replace the system powering it with one that can actually output something even close to resembling HD quality without jagged edges. And for the love of everything put some better lighting in there to get rid of the green glare on everyone’s faces.
Other than the desk, nothing has really changed in almost 10 years. TVW are overdue for some additional money for a modern set, especially now with national bulletins coming from there.
I wonder if this would be the more cost effective option for Seven right now? Invest in a better system rather than building an entire new set?
First time I’ve watched her presenting, quite good.
wanna know the sad thing? the ITV News set is virtual, and older than Perth’s system, and yet it looks much better than 7 Perth’s!
Yep. ITV has a brilliant news set. They’ve always done virtual sets extremely well.
Hard to believe their setup from 2006 looks fresher than Seven Perth!
Helps that both of those sets have at least partially physical floors as well (the 2006 one was all real, apart from the backdrop obviously).
Actually they’ve recently introduced another set, in the newsroom:
Back to The Latest… with all the cuts being made at 7, how long do we think it’ll be before it gets the axe? I know they’ve not long moved it to Perth, but it only airs on a few nights anyway… seems like it’ll be an easy target for the inevitable next round of cutbacks.
Yeah but have you ever heard her sing?
Tonight’s promo, broadcast at 11.07 pm, said join us “after 10.45.”
11:07pm is technically after 10:45pm
Once again, The Front Bar was on from around 8:35pm. It finished just after 10pm.
That Wednesday bulletin was the final for The Latest until after the Olympics (presumably). That should save some money!
Wtf. Why? Seven don’t have the Olympics. What is going on over there? Stupid decisions after another it seems.
It’s not worth the effort if it’s going to get smashed in the ratings.
I still think it’ll be axed permanently before the end of the year. What’s the point of having it when:
- it’s never on at the time advertised (except when it is, and then it’s stupidly late)
- it’s cancelled at the drop of a hat
- half the show is pre-recorded
- Seven as a whole are looking to save money anyway
It’s a shame. I like the Perth presenters and it’s nice to see them getting national exposure. But the format changes have ruined it. And it’s not treated very well anyway.
Perhaps its time for The Latest to be broadcast live at 10pm or 10.30pm on 7plus and then replay it at whatever weird time it appears on the main channel.
Randomly ditching the bulletin whenever the network couldn’t be bothered turned out to be the precursor to TVNZ axing 1 News Tonight. Very sad.
10 get smashed every night, but staff still show up and put in effort. IF that is the reason, the downward spiral of 7News continues.
Agreed.
Not a fan of that mentality at all.
The Latest should be airing as normal, despite what other networks are doing.
Probably just burning off leave during the Olympics, line it was reported Ferguson is doing/was told to do.
