Again, ho hum,
Why?
If this counts then we may as well give every Neo-Nazi nutter with a YouTube channel a thread on here. I guess theyâre all âmediaâ. Is there an Avi Yemini/Rebel News thread?
Possibly there is a rebel news thread.
For the record, it was mainly created to try and move discussion of the actual podcast out of the Today thread, and was done prior to when he really jumped off the cliff with his vaccination comments and the neo-nazi.
Frankly IMO, if this thread was closed members would just clog up the Today thread with updates on it.
Exactly. If the Today Show thread was a house, this thread would be the garbage bin for that thread. Think about it. ![]()
Stefanovic spoke candidly about his exit on the recent episode of his independent podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show, which was reportedly recorded on a yacht owned by Aussie billionaire (and Mariah Careyâs ex) James Packer in France on the same day of his departure.
Karl might be a colossal fuckwit, but itâs quite silly to think the most talked about podcast in the country right now doesnât deserve a discussion thread - at least for the time being.
This is why I think it should be removed
Sorry I donât think censorship is necessarily the answer just because you donât like his views or whatever doesnât mean the thread should be removed . Heâs paying the consequence , but to censor discussion on a community forum based on that then that is censorship. Consequences for free speech is also important .
However I think this up to the mods , would be interesting to see what they think about the thread dedicated to Karlâs podcast. Clearly he is not everyoneâs cup of tea but I think itâs also important they we hear expressions and views that we donât necessarily agree with . You donât have to post in the thread or listen to his podcast but thatâs the beauty about democracy is it not?
At least it keeps it contained to this thread rather than it spilling into multiple threads like the Today and Podcasts ones.
I disagree and do not believe in free speech, there is a reason that we have things like prohibited organisations, thereâs a reason itâs illegal to display a swastika etc. We also do not have legislated free speech in Australia. This show should be considered prohibited speech and should not be considered worthy of a thread, which legitimises it
I think this is a fair reason alone, the Today show thread is already a dumpster fire of mock presenters at the moment, we donât need more on that.
+1 to this. And weâre not endorsing it, weâre discussing the content and topics around the show itself, same as we would any other show regardless of itâs views. Same reason we have a Sky News thread ![]()
So, stop talking.
This is where I totally disagree with your statement because itâs actually doesnât do anything to actually curtail these types of viewpoints m. Itâs not illegal to be revisit or even anti immigrant , sure we can agree they morally itâs questionable but given democracy is about hearing everyoneâs point of view , it does. It mean one side should be louder than the other.
Weâre at what could be considered an interesting juncture in the media - with both Karl and Kyle leaving âtraditionalâ media in favour of the podcasting space. Like them or not, between them they have a significant following and are worthy of some discussion.
Iâm also well aware that Karl (and Kyle for that matter) have shown that theyâre willing to be outspoken, particularly in ways that are at best questionable, but that doesnt mean that we shouldnât discuss them (and the impacts they have on the sector). As this is outside of our âSpectrumâ forum, weâll pretty quickly drop content that drifts into the weeds.
I appreciate that Karlâs content isnât everyoneâs cup of tea (it certainly isnât mine), but I think that there is still a space where we can discuss his podcast without necessarily falling into it becoming a discussion about the merits of the content.
No it isnât, there are many opinions that are illegal to express and for good reason. âFree speech absolutismâ is Elon ideology.
Itâll be Holocaust denial next and then weâll have to hear from Karl about that and weigh up both sides of the argument. An opinion that is illegal in Australia. This whole thread is premised on the idea that no matter how far his views go, they will always be notable because he was on TV once.
For sure , that is true, when hatred is specifically targeted to hate groups, and the inciting violence towards minority groups etc.
But Karl has not done all that in the slightist. I am sure though he will be careful with his podcast though to ensure that it doesnât get to that point though.
Like I said, democracy - right to free speech (and consequences of having certain views have to be challenged, but they can be had and can be said) and you also have the right not to chose to engage with that content.
I will engage with Karlâs content, only if there is something useful that I think may be interesting. And if something does interset me then I will engage with that content.
It will be interesting to see how his podcast continues from here though.
I think Bacco077 makes a valid point, definetly seeing fondles of Media reforming starting to happen, with the major news broadcasters drawing a line what is acceptable and what isnt, but also going into a different spectrum of the media landscape - podcasting - for that quick news/policital/opinion piece, which I think have to say that all networks around the world (including Australia) are desperate to be apart of.
Like it or not podcasting works, for the select audience who donât want to 40-60 minutes of news, and if something can be condenced into a podcast you can listen to on a train, with opinion, it could be a good thing for both the consumer and advertisers and the networks.
But he admires those who do and have committed violence towards minorities. He told Robinson how he admired him and hisâtenacityâ during their vile podcast. The old saying âif you lie down with dogs youâre liable to get up with fleasâ. Everyone can listen to him as much as they like and call it their homage to âfree speech â, so was it said in Germany in the 1930âs.
