Poor form by Nine dumping the show to a 9.50 timeslot this week, especially on the eve of finals…
Sam Newman could be set to leave the Footy Show.

Newman wouldn’t be happy that the woman had joined the program.
Who the hell is Malcolm? lol
Malcom T Elliott?
Good riddance. He is the reason I don’t want the show anymore.
The only time he’ll quit the show is when he retires from the media
According to today’s Herald Sun Sam Newman isn’t quitting the show, a Nine network spokeswoman laughed off the rumours.
Or dare I say it…carks it live on-air!
Of course. It’s basically the only reason why it still rates and hence still being on TV to this day. When he does finally retire (of his choice or otherwise) the show will bleed viewers and soon after be axed.
If you ask me, it will be a glorious day when The AFL Footy Show (and the equally bad, if not worse NRL equivalent that those of us in the Northern states have to endure) is finally axed!
I am always surprised that the AFL rights holder can’t put together their own version of TFS.
I don’t think it’s a case of “can’t”, Seven just doesn’t want to.
They have tried and failed several times over the years with shows like Four Quarters, Live and Kicking and AFL Gameday Primetime.
I think Four Quarters was the closest to succeed, problem was it aired on Friday night when it should have been on Thursday.
Details for the grand final edition on Thursday September 29 was announced tonight. It will be held at Rod Laver Arena as usual, with the program starting earlier at 7.30pm in AFL states. Special guests include The Living End (which will also perform at the AFL Grand Final), The Veronicas and Bernard Fanning.
Seven aired “Friday Front Bar” this year, at various times after the game on Friday nights. Closest thing to a "Footy Show type show. And is tightly squeezed into an half-hour show.
A 7.30pm start for the Grand Final show? Well, that’s different. I hope it works out well.
Who could forget the disaster that was ‘The Bounce’ with Pete Helliar. Axed after only a few episodes IIRC. Seven have tried, but with most of them god awful they haven’t lasted overly long.
They should’ve tried getting BTG after it finished up on Ten all those years ago. Might’ve performed better than those other trainwrecks.
Even the 2010 Grand Final Footy Show gaved The Bounce a Mimicking to the Sound of Roy Orbison’s Classic Pretty Woman.
The Last In Studio show for 2016 Tonight as well as The 2nd Last Time we’ll see Rebecca Maddern on Channel Nine for the Year Unless She appears on Carols by Candlelight or the Boxing Day Test Coverage.
THE Footy Show is facing more turmoil with host James Brayshaw locked in robust contract discussions with Channel Nine over his future.
Insiders say Brayshaw is expecting the “red carpet to be rolled out’’ for him as the linchpin for the show after he steadied the ship following the shock departure of co-host Garry Lyon in March.
“Nothing is concluded, we hear it’s proving to be a little difficult,” a source said.
James Brayshaw is set to leave the network. Craig Hutchison is to replace him as co-host on the program from next year.
