Footy fans are set to be treated to a two-part special which looks back at 30 Years of the Footy Show from next week on Channel 9 and 9Now.

On Tuesday, August 20, at 8.40pm celebrate the 30th anniversary of the long-running and much loved program which started back in 1994, with 30 Years of the Footy Show, part one. This will be followed by part two on Tuesday, August 27, at 8.45pm. The two-part special will also air in NSW and QLD at 11.10pm.

This must-watch special will look back at the most famous moments from the Footy Show, with never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes vision and interviews with the program’s original host, Eddie McGuire, and a massive lineup of Footy Show faces. They include Garry Lyon, Sam Newman, Shane Crawford, Brendan Fevola, James Hird, Billy Brownless, Craig Hutchison, Jason Dunstall, Dermott Brereton, Jonathan Brown, Nathan Brown, Matthew Lloyd, Doug Hawkins, Campbell Brown, David Schwarz, Justin Madden, Damian Barrett, Craig Kelly and Roland Rocchiccioli.

For the first time, we hear from the key crew members and production team that made the show so successful for such a long time, including Gary Newnham, Director of every episode of the Footy Show, Original Executive Producer Harvey Silver, Head of Wardrobe Katrina Henley and Cartoonist Andrew Fyfe.

After 23 years, Sam Newman and David Schwarz face off over the infamous “pie in the face” incident, and we look back at the period in which one of Nine’s competitors poached talent from the Footy Show stable.

Savour memorable highlights of the program including fan favourite segments like Street Talk, Sam’s Mail Bag and Billy’s Wheel, as well as The House of Bulger, which saw Shane Crawford play Hank Bulger, Billy Brownless play Hank’s mother, Joybell Bulger, and Garry Lyon play the villain Hueston Crabbe. The skit also featured Dermott Brereton and Roland Rocchiccioli.

And we revisit the unforgettable moments when Shane Crawford walked from Adelaide to Melbourne in 2010 and cycled from Melbourne to Perth in 2013 to raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia, leaving the nation moved by his courage.

Don’t miss this must-see special as the gang get back together to relive some of Australian television’s greatest Footy Show moments on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Is this the same show that was on last year? Some of the doco looks familiar?

Not sure how much overlap there was between this show and the last. It was the same interviews.

It’s similar to last year’s show. A one-off Grand Final Footy show filmed live at RLA is not likely to happen

Yet they were able to do the same thing in Adelaide for Gather Round?

(Which would’ve costed extra with flying presenters, crew, etc to Adelaide).

I expect that’s on the SA Government’s dime though. Probably similar to how Fox Footy’s Best On Ground has been resurrected twice for one week only in Adelaide the last couple years.

Kane Cornes’ switch from Nine to Seven was discussed on Sunday Footy Show this morning. Kane kept a straight face.

"If I employed these people, I'd want my money back." 😂

The boys did NOT hold back on Kane after the news broke he's jumping ship – reminding him about some of his old comments about his new colleagues 🍿🍿#9AFLSFS | Nine & 9Now 🖥️ pic.twitter.com/NfKlHsVxHM

I watched part 1 of the 30 years special, but missed part 2 and forgot to record it altogether. This time I won’t miss the opportunity.

Did this actually rate high, at least in Melbourne? Maybe it did well in catch-up with time-shift or bvod. Surely they wouldn’t just replay this already questionable first run (or I think it was actually a repackaged repeat of something from last year) without solid reason. Advertisers happy maybe?

Saw part 2 of 30 Years of The Footy Show earlier tonight. It was a great trip down the memory lane, with lots of never before seen clips, both on the set and behind the scenes. However, it skimmed over the final two years of the show apart from Sam Newman’s resignation on air in 2018 and glimpses of the new hosting panel in 2019.

In fairness, not much to talk about in those later years. Shame they couldn’t get JB interviewed.

There is a bit they could talk about (Sam Newman staying silent for an episode, 2019 reboot, etc), however, they probably only wanted to talk about the good stuff.

In saying that, I haven’t actually watched the specials, so I could be wrong.

They did talk about Sam’s silent protest in 2017, and how Hutchy went out and Ed came back in. 2019 was touched on very very briefly.

It was the same show in name only. It was a woke, watered down Before The Game clone.

At the top of this morning’s Sunday Footy Show, the panel were discussing the Grand Final teams and the TV ratings potentially being the biggest of all time (they said mentioned on-air on Seven’s call).

A joke, in typical fashion for this show, about Kane Cornes going to Seven and other broadcast shuffling was also made, including mention of Seven’s new HoS Chris Jones and TJ said he “saw him last night” [at the game].

Some minutes later, Nathan Brown’s reported ‘tape’ being sent to Seven was joked about in a hilarious segment, with a fake ‘mixed tape’ of him presenting terribly.
