The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort media coverage

What’s the problem? Isn’t that the same with any event that happens in another time zone in another part of the world? Are you worried about spoilers from a concert?

British pop group Take That, international superstar Lionel Richie, global pop icon Katy Perry, international opera star Andrea Bocelli, Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, singer/songwriter Freya Ridings and classical-soul composer/producer Alexis Ffrench are some of the artists who will grace the stage at The Coronation Concert in the grounds of Windsor Castle on Sunday 7th of May, the BBC has today confirmed.

The BBC has announced that singer-songwriters Paloma Faith and Tiwa Savage, rock ‘n’ roll legend Steve Winwood, internationally renowned pianist Lang Lang and pop star Nicole Scherzinger will be part of the line-up for the Coronation Concert on Sunday 7th May. They will be joined by singer Olly Murs, Pete Tong Ibiza Classics, featuring Vula and JERUB, and winner of The Piano, Lucy, whilst Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor will deliver a spoken word performance.

The BBC also announced that Tom Cruise, Dame Joan Collins and Disney’s Winnie the Pooh will feature in the concert. Given ABC Newsradio tend to take BBC World Service programming anyway, it would be fair to assume that coverage will be taken there. The World Service coverage of the Coronation is only scheduled to start at 1945 AEST and run until 2200 AEST to cover the main ceremony.

That’s no good by world service. It should have more coverage than that. This is history.

That would seem to take in the service itself - the processions and other stuff hardly makes for great radio.

According to The Australian’s Media Diary, Seven are sparing no expense in sending local talent to London to cover The Coronation. Seven will reportedly dispatch Sunrise host David Koch to London on Monday, along with The Latest host Michael Usher, chief reporter Chris Reason, Sunrise reporter Mylee Hogan, and Seven News Adelaide anchor Rosanna Mangiarelli.

Whereas Nine will not send any Australian-based staff to the UK, with a BBC feed of the ceremony to be the focus of coverage anchored by Allison Langdon and Peter Overton from Nine’s North Sydney Studios.

He’s not in London today. When is the coronation?

Saturday our time.

But no promo yet?
Even after a feature on coronations in 7News Flashback in Brisbane last night, and on Spotlight later, no mention of the broadcast details yet.

Kochie is leaving today. Reporting from Wednesday.

Think The Australian is laying it on thick with that description. While Seven are seemingly putting more resources behind their coverage than other networks are, the number of people they’re flying over to London is scaled down compared to how many people were on the ground for coverage of the Queen’s passing/funeral last year.

Just Rosanna? No other local anchors?

Looks like AFL bumped from main channel to 7mate (rare and used to be contractually not allowed in this market until re-negotiated during COVID bar Olympics) in Adelaide this Saturday night for the royal special coverage, which makes you wonder why not Melbourne?

Seven clearly forcast an audience no higher than mid to high 100k in Melbourne, as Saturday AFL can do 200k+ sometimes, but very risky if the game blows-out and you gift Nine News and ABC audience.

However, looks like Nine sticking with NRL in Sydney on Saturday night, also a very rare showing (no Thursday with Magic Round) and I’m guessing Brisbane too.
