The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort media coverage

Weird indeed, 7news is running that story now, 23mins in. Much more appropriate.

I get not everyone is into the Coronation. But it’s a globally significant historic event. Wonder if 9 is trying to be ultra local because they’re struggling in the ratings?

I can understand those criticisms (although I do not agree with them) and how they might have felt this was one way of responding. I do draw the line at the day of the funeral though, having pundits criticising her and the monarchy on air on that day would have been extremely tasteless (and also exactly what would have happened if Stan had his way).

It would have been fine if say on Friday night they ran a program with Stan and Fozz where they put forward their alternative views on the monarchy. Having it as actual part of the ceremony coverage though was completely inappropriate however.

In case you missed it

Many bulletins tonight had a similar structure, opening with a pre-recorded report about the ceremonial aspects, then one about what was happening before and after the service. Then followed live reports from London.

ABC News Victoria tonight did not lead with Coronation either. The lead item was the major breakthrough in the West Gate Tunnel project, and also a plan to expel controversial MP Moira Deeming from the state Liberal Party.

Not surprising. We know how the ABC feel about the Royal Family…

Moments away from coming to a major realisation here…

Doesn’t the British monarchy symbolise the freedom of being able to criticise things without the threat of being thrown into a gulag? Honestly.

History and the guillotine suggest otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Do we know who will be showing the Coronation Concert live? So far Stan is the only place I’ve seen. I don’t know if any news channels will have it.

Some coverage of the festivities. Technology has changed a lot since 1953

Great coverage by Seven. Usher was a stand out and was well supported. Kochie added very little if anything verbally and is looking and sound ready to retire.

As for the ABC attempt. Pathetic stuff from Stan Grant and co.

SBS did not show any live coverage of the Coronation ceremony on Saturday, however last night it aired a 90-minute special from the BBC, The Coronation: A Day to Remember.

Live from outside Buckingham Palace, Kirsty Young looks back at a remarkable coronation day. The programme will feature key highlights from the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, the coronation procession, one of the largest military parades in living history, the famous Buckingham Palace balcony appearance and the fly-past commemorating this historic day.

Kirsty will be joined by special guests, some of whom were an integral part of the ceremony, including musicians performing at the coronation and friends of the newly crowned King and Queen who were invited to the Abbey.

The program is now available on SBS on Demand for anyone interested.

10 had the best coverage of the FTA networks with just the BBC feed and no Australian presenters

The concert will also be shown on TVNZ1 in New Zealand at 8pm tonight (Monday).

I notice that (based on online guides) Nine and TVNZ both stating the concert broadcast will go for 2.5 hours, while Seven has only allocated two hours. How long did the concert run for?
