Silicon Valley - Season 5

From Monday 26 March at 9pm AEDT Express from the US

The award-winning HBO comedy series Silicon Valley returns for a fifth season on The Comedy Channel, screening Mondays from March 26 at 9pm express from the US and only on Foxtel.

The Emmy®-winning and Golden Globe-nominated series takes a comic look at the modern-day epicentre of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.

A collaboration between Mike Judge and Alec Berg, the eight-part, half-hour series sees the return of Thomas Middleditch as Richard Hendricks; Zach Woods as Jared; Kumail Nanjiani as Dinesh; Martin Starr as Gilfoyle; Josh Brener as Big Head; Amanda Crew as Monica; Matt Ross as Gavin Belson; Jimmy O. Yang as Jian-Yang and Suzanne Cryer as Laurie Bream.

In the new season, the Pied Piper guys are closer to real fame and fortune than ever before, as their new decentralised internet “PiperNet” approaches its debut. But more money brings more problems. As Richard struggles with the responsibilities of being the CEO of a rapidly growing company, along with pressures from investors Monica and Laurie, Dinesh and Gilfoyle adjust to a new team, Jared works his hardest to hold everything together, Big Head continues to stumble his way into good fortune and Jian-Yang proves there’s nothing he won’t do to make some fast cash. Meanwhile, at Hooli, reinstated CEO Gavin’s desire to stay relevant threatens to consume him as he seeks to destroy the competition.

In 2017, Silicon Valley received ten Emmy® nominations for its fourth season, including Outstanding Comedy Series (for the fourth consecutive year), as well as two for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Jamie Babbit, Mike Judge) and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (Alec Berg).

To date, the show has received 33 Emmy® nominations, with its second season winning two Emmys®, for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series.

Silicon Valley was created by Mike Judge & John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky; executive producers, Mike Judge, Alec Berg, Clay Tarver, Michael Rotenberg, Tom Lassally, Jim Kleverweis, Jamie Babbit; co-executive producers, Anthony King, Graham Wagner and Ron Weiner; consulting producers, Carrie Kemper, Carson Mell, Jonathan Dotan, Todd Silverstein.

Silicon Valley season 5 screens express from the US, Mondays at 9pm (AEDT) from March 26, only on The Comedy Channel on Foxtel.

Following its broadcast on The Comedy Channel, Silicon Valley will be available to watch from Foxtel’s on demand library, along with past seasons, or streamed on demand on Foxtel’s streaming service, Foxtel Now.

Does anyone know if Silicon Valley usually has a screening on Showcase later in the week? That’s how I get to watch Last Week Tonight and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

It’s on The Comedy Channel.

I streamed it at 9:00pm last night as it went to air on The Comedy Channel, but I had cause to pause it on my laptop then tried to skip past the ads and it crashed. Foxtel Now live streaming is still buggy. However, the episode appeared on on-demand shortly after 9:00pm so I was able to watch the rest of the episode. Foxtel on-demand is great, but the live stream isn’t so good.

I’ve found the new episodes are only SD both on The Comedy Channel and on demand through Foxtel Now. However the previous episodes of the new season from last week and earlier appear to be HD and DD5.1 sound via On Demand.

I’ve been checking every night this week for the latest episode to be HD and it hasn’t been. I’d rather wait for it to be HD and DD5.1 then watch the new episodes in SD. So much for express from the US…

Anyone know how long it takes for Foxtel to get HD available. I recall a similar delay happened with Game of Thrones Season 7 new episodes last year.

The Emmy®-nominated comedy series Silicon Valley returns for a sixth and final season and will be available to stream on Foxtel and screen on The Comedy Channel, same day as the US from Monday October 28 at 9:00pm AEDT.

The sixth and final season of Mike Judge and Alec Berg’s tech-skewering comedy opens with Pied Piper, after years of false starts, bigger than ever before and now a legitimate presence in Silicon Valley, having separated themselves from the competition with their commitment to not mine user data. Yet, as they soon learn, staying true to your morals comes at a price in a business that is fast-moving and cutthroat.

A major player in the industry, reluctant leader Richard (Thomas Middleditch) continues to struggle with how to balance his integrity with the insane amounts of money dangled in front of him. Despite officially having Monica (Amanda Crew) on his team, Richard risks losing Jared (Zach Woods), who feels out of place at the new Pied Piper and is drawn back to the hacker hostel, now co-run by Big Head (Josh Brener) and Jian-Yang (Jimmy O. Yang). Meanwhile, at Pied Piper’s expansive offices, Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani) and Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) face the responsibilities of being managers of large teams. And, refusing to abandon his company even as it is being gutted, Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) pivots in an anti-tech direction.

As the Pied Piper guys deal with the stress of managing a growing organisation and the uncomfortable social situations that come along with that, Silicon Valley promises a conclusion that’s funny, smart and fitting for our forever- awkward tech heroes.

Silicon Valley is executive produced by Mike Judge, Alec Berg, Michael Rotenberg, Tom Lassally, Clay Tarver, Jim Kleverweis and Lew Morton.
