Does anyone still watch the US version? It’s on season seven at the moment.
My thoughts:
Bullying and nastiness started sneaking through in season 6 but this season is out of control.
It’s not really enjoyable at all. There’s so much bullying, lying and out right nut jobs in there.
I really hope next season they go back to basics.
There’s been a few times where “circle chat” has ended mid way through a group chat. To me that’s the producers trying to control the bullying but it just happens again the next chat.
I used to really enjoy this show and have been wanting an Aussie version but not if it’s going to be like this.
I cancelled my Netflix subscription a few months ago. I binged last season before I cancelled it. The US version is not on the same level as the original in my opinion. It’s still a great format, it does come down to the casting (& by the sounds of it, the producers) though.
I really liked this in the beginning but the Americanisation of the show has destroyed it. Only got half way through the 1st episode of the new season. I believe the time for an Australian version has passed.
Really? I’ve seen absolutely no hints of any bullying at all. I think you’re confusing playing the game in front of them with something it absolutely isn’t.
Been enjoying this series - the switch up twist was fun, but that harked back to the original more outrageous catfishing element which has somewhat been lost in the recent US series with most people playing themselves or a slightly modified version of themselves and the few catfishes usually just playing somebody the know rather than creating a whole persona and character.
The twins targeted Kevin straight away. Telling lies and making the other players believe he’s a liar.
First blocking. Refused to leave the room until Kevin agreed to block who they wanted out (Savannah). The one person who Kevin became close to. She was devastated and her last words before she left was “why didn’t anyone like me”.
After the blocking the boys turned on Kevin again and made everyone believe it was Kevin’s idea to block Savannah and they turned on Kevin.
And then you have Madelyn flat out lying saying that Heather told things about Darien that just weren’t true and proceeded to keep the lie going throughout the whole episode to the point where Darien was then rated last.
This isn’t normal game play. It’s malicious targeting. There are other ways to play the game without doing these things.
The twins particularly are heinous. Again refusing to leave the room until Kevin agreed with them and voted their way.
The show is literally the definition of gaslighting.
I have to agree the way the twins have played has made me feel uncomfortable. Im not sure if I would define it as bullying but definitely goes against my morals. It does provide good conversation though as a lot of our conversations are online and bullying, lying and gaslighting is easy to do online. However, the game is literally based off lying and cheating so I guess anything is fair game to win the game at the end?
Have enjoyed this series more than most - certainly felt fresher than the last few on Netflix and been cast well.
No surprise to see Madelyn getting hate for just playing the game - the entire point of the show is to highlight that on social media anyone can be anyone and say anything whether true or not and for players to exploit that too their advantage. Ultimately didn’t pay off but sad that yet again in reality TV when gameplaying and being a “villain” (which she really wasn’t anyway) is often celebrated when it comes to the male contestants the women just get hate for it.
Found the twins really annoying at first but they played well, though never really understood the popularity within The Circle. Some of the ratings were questionable to say the least, especially Madelyn getting the final Super Influencer nod.
