The Chase Australia

Really? At least Larry has extensive game show experience and is reasonably likeable.

Kochie hosting The Chase Australia would probably have been even more obnoxious than AOK…and that’s saying something!

I was sorta joking because it’s very unlikely Kochie will ever host a game show in what’s left of his media career.

Larry does come across as a nice and genuine person, and no doubt attracts better publicity for the network than Andrew did, but something about him on The Chase just doesn’t feel right IMO.

Neither Andrew or Larry have appealed too much to me.

I’ve said this before but the appeal of the UK one is the comedy element and the repartee between the Chasers, Bradley and the contestants. Andrew and Larry are polished game show hosts but they’re not really multi-hyphenates despite Seven’s attempt to get them to be.

The Australian one feels more like a straight game show.

Funny to read these comments… I was just thinking today how it feels as though Larry is starting to settle in and make it more his own show now… seems way more at ease.

Yep. Larry seems to have settled in and we’ve been able to get used to his style now.

Have definitely noticed that Larry calls them his team regularly, don’t recall ever hearing AOK saying that. While AOK was good, I’ve now warmed more to Larry and it’s pretty good. Something still doesn’t feel quite right, but the only thing I can put that down to is me remembering what he was like on The Price Is Right 25 years ago - he has changed quite a bit since then so I can’t hold that against him.
I just don’t enjoy the British version with Bradley as much so I’d much prefer Larry.

AOK would often say something like “alright team, your time…”.

yeah, he definitely mentioned team but I don’t recall a “my team” or a “my player”. Didn’t like it at first from Larry but it’s not too bad and is an interesting addition.

^ I’ve been banging on about the ‘my team’ thing but apparently it’s this way on the UK version. Personally, I don’t like it.

Yeah, Bradley adopts them as his team. Again - it works on the UK version because there’s a bit of pantomime villain stuff with the Chasers. It creates an Us v Them mentality.

The Australian version has been hosted by two cheese-lords and the ‘my team’ vibe probably doesn’t work as well there.

Hardly seen any Promos for Auditions on Sydney TV.

Is Beat The Chaser coming back

It was announced that they were opening contestants applications for BTC at the start of this year, but with the recent long lockdowns in NSW and VIC, it’s unlikely BTC will return this year.

I thought it worked quite well with just the 4 Aussie Chasers, arguably better than the 5 on the original UK series, but now the UK has gone to 6 I suspect should it return in Aus they’d be keen to involved Mark and Anne so may do the same, where if you get all 5 questions right you will have the option to play all 6 Chasers (otherwise 5) for a really big money prize. That would work better than bringing the top players back for an unnecessary final like they did last time.

If I recall from Anne on twitter, 7 are not keen on having both her and Mark in Oz at the same time. In addition to Mark’s Chase USA commitments this year and into the future.

If BTC Australia is to return to Australia in 2022, my guess is that they’d want either Anne or Mark in the country when they start filming. I’d suspect they’d be more after the former but will be more than happy to settle on the later if he’s not in the USA or filming his usual commitments in the UK.

Tonight’s The Chase Australia episode was probably one of the weakest groups of contestants yet. 3 of the 4 taking the low offers, and the one that took the middle offer only got 2 questions right ($4000). Even the Chaser (Cheryl in this case) had a few words to say by saying she was ‘not disgusted’, but just ‘disappointed’ at all those low offer takers.

Also a poor selection by Channel 7 for the 1000th episode broadcast (It wasn’t actually the 1000th episode produced, but the 1000th episode shown).

Do they still offer relatively high low offers and relatively low high offers? Does the Aussie version ever offer minus offers?

They haven’t done that since the start of Season 2 years ago. A typical offer would be for example
$2,000
$10,000 (5 questions right)
$30,000

The high offer can be anywhere between 2.5x to 4x the amount of the cashbuilder earnt. A ‘high low’ offer would generally be between 20-25% of the cashbuilder, for example a $16,000 earnt the low offer may be $4,000.

Minus offers were introduced with Season 2. Although not as frequent as the UK version, the minus do pop up every few episodes or so with various offers between -$1 and -$4999, however it doesn’t go past -$5,000.

The Chase AUS moves into repeat mode from today but there are still a couple new episodes to be found, depending on your location. Thursday’s episode (Episode 5) is listed as new with a 30 minute version seen in Sydney and Melbourne on Friday also listed as new.
