Absolutely… be thankful they’re not playing the full hour of The Chase.
Remembering Andrew O’Keefe has served Seven News very well for very many a year. The change of host to Larry is not insignificant and so this strategy of launching Larry’s episodes during the Olympics and not after the Olympics is absolutely acceptable from a programming perspective.
Clearly by sticking with Tokyo 2020 one night (yes it was a high profile Australian going for gold), but it nonetheless showed The Chase is expendable. So why bother at all during the Olympics if it’s at risk of being aired or not. The show’s getting enough promotion from promos during the Olympics anyway.
Also, would Seven have not have hoped for a bit better better 800k-odd metro? Considering much longer running codings had done much higher (mid-1m metro) including in day time such as the weekend.
I think getting nearly 850k (about 250k up on usual) when you’ve just told people to switch channels to keep watching the Olympics on your other channels is pretty decent.
No episode again tonight. What a waste of time. It’s going to be extremely hard to reschedule these episodes unless they do two back to back or air they at 5:30pm Sundays before the news.
Baffling to add it to the schedules the two weeks they’ve premium content so don’t need it - just ends up pissing off Olympic viewers and The Chase viewers at the same time.
Would have been better just to focus on advertising it heavily and then perhaps launched it with a special full episode on the Sunday of the closing ceremony where the action tales off late afternoon ahead of the ceremony in the evening.
Considering the Olympics are rating 1.5-2m and The Chase usually rates around 0.5m it’s even more baffling they would forsake half an hour of coverage for it.
With the NSW covid situation not likely to ease anytime soon, I wonder if Channel Seven are looking at temporarily moving production either (back) to Melbourne or to Brisbane. This is taking into situation the 2-week quarantine requirements for whichever chasers are required to travel.
The other situation is both Larry and Cheryl (Tiger Mum) are both from Sydney and both are known to have second jobs plus families.
Not knowing their family situation and looking from their jobs, it may be easier for Larry to temporarily move (get a substitute host for the Morning Show), however Cheryl’s situation may be a bit more complicated working as a lawyer (she’s very much the Australian equivalent of Shaun ‘Destroyer’ Wallace other FT job as a Barrister).
Move it to the 7Tas studios in Hobart and Launceston - shutdown free since March last year. No social distancing required they could cram the 4 contestants behind the news desk.
