The Chase Australia

Episode 2: Next Sunday 8 November

In the second episode of Beat The Chasers, more of Australia’s smartest quiz minds will go up against our four Chasers. In the first few minutes of the program, our biggest prize money yet is up for grabs.

And later, the Shark meets his match - again. Last time they came head to head, the Shark left as sushi. Tonight the Shark will have his three Chaser mates right there beside him in the fight!

Last episode, Quiz King David Poltorak made a courageous decision, to take on all Four Chasers for a massive cash prize - $150 000. Tonight, it’s time for him to do battle with Australia’s four most formidable braniacs.

Dani Siller runs an escape room podcast of international acclaim. The biggest celebrity name she’s had on, is triple threat Neil Patrick Harris. But will Dani become a little star struck when she comes up against our Four Chasers? Will she want to escape or have what it takes to topple our team of brains?

Pastor Stephen Donohue has worked in a ministry in Columbia. He’s also a mad keen sports jersey collector. If he wins money against the Chasers tonight, it will go to both! Can he build a bank of money to go up against the Chasers?

Brigid O’Connor has racked up big money on quiz shows in the past. With so few fantastic female quizzers, she and the Tiger Mum have a special bond. Until it’s game on and time for The Chase. Can Brigid beat the Chasers and win the money she would dearly love to fix her daughters teeth and buy a pair of rollerskates!

Next to face the Chasers is Anne McClenahan. A serial trivia buff and a medical professional with a quirky sense of humour, Anne makes a dramatic entry to the contestant podium. She’s won a quarter of a million dollars on game shows in the past, but this is unlike any other quiz show. Can the serial quizzer become a serial winner?

Finally, it’s the man who made the Shark, sushi. William Laing is known to each and every Chaser. He’s beaten the Shark before and he’s even written a book about how to win a million dollars. He bravely chooses to go against all four Chasers and the showdown is captivating.

I also enjoyed the first episode of Beat the Chasers but didn’t like the cliffhanger. We should have been able to see David challenging the Chasers rather than waiting for another seven days.

It was filmed in early September in Sydney.

The home viewer competition has the closing date of November 29, so I think that’s when the grand final will air. It is the first night of the non-ratings period though.

I agree.

The show itself was great. Andrew is OTT as usual though. He’s hard to watch for me.

…James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter are to star in the series, which has received a nine-episode order from the Disney-owned network.

Sara Haines, from ABC’s The View, will host the series, which is produced by ITV America’s ITV Entertainment. Adam Sher, Bernie Schaeffer and Vin Rubino are executive producers.

All of these ‘famous for being on other quiz show’ people are very unlikeable. I think they shouldn’t have gone down this path.

Episode 3: 15 November at 7:00 pm

Tonight the Chasers face foes they have come against before. Foes that have outsmarted them as individuals but will they fare so well going up against our four Chaser Brainiacs?

There’s the father and son with a point to prove. And Supernerd is in the sights of contestants for “romantic” reasons. A revealing Beat the Chasers tonight.

First it is Hal Fowkes. He’s an esteemed pub trivia host who is used to having all the answers. His quiz against the Chasers will come down to just one solitary second.

Next, it’s photographer David Glazebrook. He’s beaten Goliath in a team on the Chase Australia but this time it’s Goliath who has the team alongside him.

Sam Glazebrook is up third and yes, that is a familiar name. He’s David’s son, a tour leader on the Bridge Climb and keen to use winnings to see basketball games in the States. But first things first; Sam must first build a bank of money to go up against the Chasers.

When it comes to female affection, our Supernerd does quite well with our contestants! Amy Hooper is no exception. She’s flirted with Issa before and taken him down, but will she be strong enough to defeat Supernerd and his brainy allies?

You don’t get much more Aussie than contestant Craig Lawler. He runs bushranger tours taking tourists to key landmarks from the bushranger era of the 1860’s. Before he can rob the Chasers blind, he will have to get through his multiple choice round, and build a bank to go up against our brainiacs.

It’s hard to tell at first what Caitlin McDowell is here for – a massive sum of money or Supernerd’s phone number! After spilling the beans about her secret crush, it is game on and this young lady is determined to leave nothing in the tank.

Adam Burt is a teacher from Albury Wodonga. An extensive traveller, Adam has been to more than 40 countries around the world. Will that be enough for this educator to do his students proud and beat our team of Chasers?

Congratulations to David, who beat all four Chasers and won $150,000 in last night’s episode.
Dani and William stumbled during their respective challenges. Stage nerves?

Whilst I feel The Chase is geared towards the Chasers winning, it seems Beat The Chasers is geared to the contestants. You have to be pretty bad or have a stumble not to win from what I’ve seen so far.

It’s all just a bit of fun really.

If you’re not in desperate need of the money and are really just there for the experience, you’d probably go for the top offer (or at the very least, the middle offer) and just hope you do well or The Chasers stuff up.

Does anyone else think that Seven may decide not to bring back The Beast and The Governess?

The show’s ratings are doing fine with just The Supernerd, Shark, Goliath and Tiger Mum, so I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if they don’t bring them back on a regular basis to save costs.

They can always bring them every year or so for a guest appearance, like they did with Shaun Wallace.

I think people enjoy watching past winners come back to tell how their past win effected their life and then go up against the best. Fun to see one of the chasers stumble and get death stares from the others, too.

I find the afternoon show tedious these days but quite enjoy this version. At least some people are winning big money.

After a 4th round of heats on 22 November, the Grand Final will be on 29 November

After four dramatic heats, it is time for the Grand Final. The top 7 prize winners must Beat the Chasers again but this time, all four Chasers at once and for massive money pots.

It does make sense - I always assumed they were just there to kind of launch the series anyway.

Episode 4: 22 November at 7:00PM

It’s the final heats on Beat the Chasers and there’s still massive money to be won and places in our massive Grand Final. A former Mastermind champ, a doctor and a police sergeant are all vying for glory. Tiger Mum continues to scare even the most educated of competitors. And the final game comes down to the wire. Who will make it into the Beat the Chasers Grand Final?

There’s still massive money to be won and places in our massive Grand Final. Troy Egglestone would love to walk away a winner. The stamp collector has won Mastermind, now he wants another quiz show scalp. Next up is police officer Dave Lowden. He and his wife are both officers of the law. Is he ready for the Beat the Chasers line of questioning? Adela Greenbaum and her friends have gone to plenty of effort to be at Beat the Chasers.

So much so she bursts into song. But will her answers hit the right note? Teacher Mark Gannon makes secret of his fear of one of our Chasers. He wants to do his students and his girlfriend proud and will give it his all. Doctor Lara Podlubny is married to a fireman. She’s used to handling the heat and has won 100 thousand dollars on another Quiz Show. But that show didn’t have four Chasers all looking for glory. Finally, it’s pub quiz host and auctioneer Wayne Shapiro. His battle with the Chasers goes down to the wire.

Adelaide’s FiveAA is hosting a listener competition to promote The Chase.

For tonight’s grand final, each of the top 7 placegetters had to face all four Chasers and stake some or all of their winnings in the preliminary round, in order to win a bigger cash prize. Should be an enthralling contest.

They saved the best till last. When David Poltorak faced the Chasers last night, Issa offered $250,000 prizemoney if David can beat all four in 60 seconds. Given David was already series winner with the highest amount of money won, the $250,000 offer was really for entertainment purposes. In the end, David’s time ran out 10 seconds before the Chasers, but he still walked away with $145,000 in cash.

The finale format didn’t work at all, especially with the contestants not being willing to gamble and kind of happy they’d already won a good chunk of cash and beaten the Chasers.

What they should have done is given the Chasers control over the money bet - so play either just for the money won, or gamble a small portion of previous winnings ($1k-$5k) for the middle offer or a higher amount ($10k-$50k). I’d have kept the 2/3/4 Chaser element as well.
