The Block

EPISODE 6: TUESDAY, AUGUST 20

Our Blockheads wake up in Tent City again, and camping is starting to get tiring. Paige has had enough, as her mattress keeps deflating, but is something else going on more serious?

House 5’s Kristian and Mimi start the day with a one hour time penalty after Kristian forged Foreman Dan’s signatures for an important demo permit, trying to cut corners. The day doesn’t get any better for Kristian after he serves his penalty, with problem after problem with his build as he continues to break the rules to try and save time. He doesn’t get too much support from his wife Mimi, and the stress is starting to take its’ toll.

Courtney and Grant have their own issues In House No.2, with a huge trade bill from week one that came in from their builders which now means they are $15,000 over budget.

Our Blockheads are all forward planning, including Ricky and Haydn who get a surprise in Melbourne at their kitchen consult as his wife Chelsea and week-old baby Tilly visit.

Jesse and Paige are up and down, and each day they try to get away from The Block to one of Phillip Island’s beautiful beaches to take it all in. Paige is struggling with the realities of The Block, making decisions, being constantly asked what she is up to, and not having any control.

She tells Jesse she has had enough and wants to leave, The Block is just too much.

Haydn comes to the rescue and takes her on a shopping trip and cheers her up, but as soon as she arrives back at The Block she continues to spiral. She calls her Mum in Perth and unloads, she is not happy at all. She explains she is a hothead and can go from 1 to 100 at any moment.

Will she last on The Block? That remains to be seen.

EPISODE 7: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21

Tent City is starting to wear thin with our Blockheads and one team - Ricky and Haydn - take things into their own hands. The boys just before midnight move their mattresses into the contestants green room as they have had enough of the tents.

It’s Friday on The Block our contestants are busy renovating their guest bedrooms, week two on The Block.

Jesse and Paige have had such an up and down time on The Block so far and today, Paige has woken up in an extremely good mood.

Shelley arrives to meet Scott for the weekly Friday walkarounds.

Mimi has had a tough week after a media outlet wrote she is a villain with no proof and it got to her. Kristian on the other hand laughed it off. Scotty and Shelley give her some great advice, just ignore it.

Kylie and Brad got hammered in the judging for their black bathroom and it has played on Kylie’s mind all week. Kylie wants to continue the black theme but she has pared it back as she was spooked by the comments. Scott and Shelley give her mixed advice, Scott thinks they need to think of the buyer while Shelley says she should stick to her guns.

The advice just confuses Kylie even more.

Courtney and Grant in House No.2 get told off by Scott for spending $33,000 on last week’s bathroom, they are already $13,000 over budget.

Paige’s mood goes from good to bad to good and bad again. Her and Jesse have a major fight on Friday over seemingly nothing. The roller coaster for Jesse and Paige continues.

EPISODE 8: SUNDAY, AUGUST 25

It’s 27 hours until the Blockheads reveal their first guest bedroom. This also means the end to Tent City, where our contestants have been camping for the past two weeks and it couldn’t come soon enough.

Most of the contestants are in a good shape but there are still the usual issues with style choices and design.

Paige has been struggling all week with her fiance Jesse to nail down exactly what their style is, but at least this week they will finish their room.

Kylie and Brad are also having trouble, do they listen to the feedback from the judges and pair their black contemporary style back, or stick to their guns?

The Saturday night before the big room reveal all the Blockheads go to the local pub for dinner and drinks, a well deserved break from The Block.

Ricky and Haydn and Kylie and Brad return early to continue to work, while Jesse and Paige, Courtney and Grant and Kristian and Mimi party the night away.

The next morning as tool’s down approaches, there are some sore heads but everyone delivers a finished room.

Scott visits all of the houses before he calls tools down, and he thinks everyone is a winner.

Our judges arrive and judging commences.

House No.1 Jesse and Paige spent $9,377

A remarkable improvement for Jesse and Paige who the judges think have finally found their style - Modern Colonial.

The judges thought they got it just right. High end, but not too over the top.

House No.2 Courtney and Grant spent $8,317

The kid’s room Courntey and Grant delivered was full of fun and sophistication according to the judges. Marty loved it, and made and early call - if they keep the styling up and level of detail up they are going to be hard to beat.

House No.3 Ricky and Haydn spent $8,062

The boys were let down by some bad workmanship by their trades, especially the roof and the plastering. The biggest issues the judges had was the layout and the positioning of the bunk beds. They want the boys to bring more of an emotional connection to their rooms.

House No.4 Kylie and Brad spent $11,611

The judges were perplexed, Shaynna thought the room was art deco and not right for a beach out. Marty actually thought they did a much better job compared to the bathroom last week. There were real mixed opinions. Kylie doesn’t know what to do now. Does she listen to the judges or follow her gut when it comes to her style?

House No.5 Kristian and Mimi spent $12,016

Another fantastic week for the Adelaide married couple. The asymmetric room works and it was callus and elegant. Marty thinks the room will photograph really well.

So on to judging, and for a second week in a row Kristian and Mimi win by half a point over Courtney and Grant.

Episode 9 Airing Monday August 26

Our Blockheads are now into week three, as life settles in on Phillip Island.

This week they have to renovate the master ensuite bathroom, which terrifies some of the contestants.

Kylie is struggling to figure out what to do, and didn’t react well to the judges feedback for her and her husband Brad’s guest bedroom. She doesn’t know if she should stick with her all black style or listen to the judges, as she gets different opinions from everyone.

Tension continues to build between Grant and Courtney and their building team, after huge costs for labor. Grant puts his foot down and demands they take $6,500 of their bill, take it or leave it.

There is more bad news for Courtney and Grant, as they miss the compulsory pre-start with Foreman Dan and lie to him about it. Their building site gets shut down for an hour and they aren’t happy.

Ricky and Haydn are also having trade dramas in House No.3, they are struggling to lock in a tiler and a waterproofer which could really set them back this week.

The up and down time for Jesse and Paige in House No.1 continues. They have a blow up with Foreman Dan after they fail to get in their plans with True Core Steel for this week’s room.

Jesse swears at Dan on the phone and this sets off an argument with him and Paige as they are out shopping for tiles at Beaumont Tiles. Paige is also annoyed as Jesse chose floor to ceiling tiles without asking her, after the judges suggested the exact opposite after they didn’t finish their first bathroom in week one.

In the car back to The Block there are tears and conflict between the engaged couple.

Fan favourites from the 2020 New St Brighton series of The Block - Jimmy and Tam - arrive to take Kristian and Mimi for their Ford Getaway after winning their second room in a room last week.

Back at The Block, Ricky and Haydn wake up to their pool being dug and are not happy as it’s so close to Kylie and Brad’s next door. They want to move it and call Kylie and Brad for a meeting.

On the Tuesday on The Block, Jesse apologises to Foreman Dan for his behaviour, but things are continuing to look really rocky for the couple from Perth. The rocky road continues for Jesse and Paige.

Episode 10 Airing Tuesday August 27

They have been great friends until now, but will a pool come in between Rick and Haydn in House No.3 and Kylie and Brad next door in House No.4?

Ricky and Haydn think the pools are too close together and won’t help sell their houses and they ask Kylie and Brad to move their pool, but they don’t budge.

The boys then look into moving their pool from the current position in the front of House No.3 to the back. But after chatting to Block architect Julian Brenchley, who explains the plans they decided to keep the Plungie pool where it is. Poolgate is over.

The boys have bigger problems, there are issues with their builder Miller as he is falling behind as they build their master ensuite bathroom. Ricky wonders out aloud if he is the right man for the job.

It’s Waterproof Wednesday, and as usual most of the teams are struggling to meet the strict deadlines. Building a bathroom is a busy week for Foreman Dan, as there are so many inspections before the Blockheads can start tiling.

Jesse and Paige continue to talk about whether it was a smart decision to choose wall to ceiling tiles, after the judges advised them not too.

Kylie and Brad get a styling session from designer Jack from Freedom, but Kylie doesn’t know whether to be happy or offended that The Block thinks she needs help.

The tension continues to grow between RIcky and Haydn and their builder Miller, who leaves for a personal commitment at 5pm despite a lot of work to do. It turns out he went to a music concert in Melbourne with his wife, and Ricky’s issue is he wasn’t honest and upfront about it.

Foreman Dan arrives at The Block dressed as a penguin and issues the first challenge of The Block, which will take place at the famous Penguin Parade, which is just down the road from The Block at the Phillip Island Nature Parks.

Paula from the Parks explains the challenge, our Blockheads have to build in three hours a penguin burrow with a reward of $5000.

During the challenge Rickiy and Haydn get some concerning news regarding their bathroom build from Foreman Dan and Haydn has to head back to The Block to sort it out.

There are all sorts of issues with the build and waterproofing, causing more tension with their builder Miller and the boys.

Ricky and Haydn are in all sorts of trouble and the big question is - will they deliver a finish room come Sunday?

The Blockheads finish the challenge and the judging takes place by Paul and Kylie and Brad come out on top, winning $5000 and the very first gnome.

This year the gnome is now a penguin considering The Block is on Phillip Island, and it gives Kylie and Brad a bonus point.

The day ends on a poignant and positive note as the Blockheads watch the penguins at night, but Ricky and Haydn’s mind is on all the drama back at The Block.

Episode 11 Airing Wednesday August 28

It’s three days until master ensuite reveal and only Kylie and Brad and Jesse and Paige have started tiling their bathrooms and everyone else is starting to panic.

Kristian and Mimi in House No.5 are thrown a curve ball after their new tiler arrives without the correct paperwork to get inducted.

Kylie and Brad are having a better week in House No.4, they get $5000 of cash from Mitre 10 for being a hard worker on The Block.

It’s been set back after set back with Ricky and Haydn after communication and execution issues with their builders and it’s about to get worse.

Foreman Dan and head builder Aidan from Nine In Six inspect their waterproofing and there are multiple issues and they send everyone home.

It’s devastating for Ricky and Haydn, but they won’t be able to deliver their bathroom this week. They console with Scott and Shelley as the hosts of The Block do their walk arounds and encourage the boys to put it behind them and keep going.

That leads to a tough chat with their builder Miller, the boys explain it’s just not working out as there have been too many issues and they let him go. The boys explain to Miller they don’t think the relationship is going to get any better and it’s best they part ways.

Episode 12

It’s just over 24 hours for our Blockheads to complete their master ensuite bathrooms.

House 3’s Ricky and Haydn are coming to terms with the fact they won’t be able to present a room this week after major issues with their waterproofing and their build. They have sacked their builder and head to the Phillip Island airport to meet and greet their new builder - Allstar Duncan Miller.

Duncan has agreed to help the boys for a few weeks and get them back on track.

Brad and Kylie are having a good week, until the wrong size shower screen is installed.

Courtney and Grant have the same issue, but it’s their fault, there was a miscommunication with the glazier and they didn’t provide the right measurements.

It’s all hands on deck for Kristian and Mimi, who are trying to take their third win in a row. But they are clashing, especially after Mimi stays out drinking with her friends on The Block despite the fact Kristian begged her to come back and help.

The next day she is remorseful and feels bad as Kristian had to try and finish the bathroom himself.

Scotty calls “tool’s down” and it’s judging time.

House No.1 Jesse and Paige spent $20,884

The judges, especially Darren, were very complimentary of Jesse and Paige’s bathroom, from the execution, planning to the styling.

A really strong room for Jesse and Paige and Marty thinks it ticks all the boxes for any buyer.

House No.2 Courtney and Grant spent $20,575

The judges loved every single thing about this bathroom and thought it was very Phillip Island appropriate.

Marty loved it and thought it reminded him of a six star hotel in Europe.

House No.3 Ricky and Haydn (didn’t finish)

The judges were obviously very disappointed that the boys obviously had a disastrous week. They were encouraged by the fact they went back to the first week’s bathroom and had another go at that.

House No.4 Kylie and Bread spent $22,224

Darren loved the Shou Sugi Ban on the wall and was somewhere in the middle today. Shaynna thought the room was again too art deco, while Marty thought Kylie and Brad have finally hit their straps.

House No.5 Kristian and Mimi spent $33,135

The planning let Kristian and Mimi down this week, the shower was just too big a space. They weren’t happy Kristian and Mimi left a note with excuses on the door.

So after coming runner up by half a point in the first two weeks, Courtney and Grant take out the win.

Jesse and Paige are also very happy after Darren awarded them a 10.

Darren Palmer:
Jesse & Paige 10
Courtney & Grant 9 ½
Ricky & Haydn 1 ½
Kylie & Brad 8
Kristian & Mimi 7

The whole thing about the definition of Master Bedroom and En-suite tonight was cringe. Is it really an issue to call it that?

What next MainChef?

Haha. I watched part of the repeat at lunchtime today, and i cringed at the whole Master Bedroom and Ensuite "debacle’, calling it the Main Room. I didn’t realise it was an issue until today.

I actually laughed out loud with MainChef.

What’s also funny is the 2 mates going on about dishonesty and respect being something big to them yet one of them cheated on his partner with the married makeup artist on the show

I feel like the Goggleboxers watching tonight. Was there any building done at all? I saw one shot of a hammer hitting a nail in. The rest was product placement throughout.

Also interesting 2 couples had the same real estate and both thought the same auctioneer who has won the last 2 seasons. I feel like this guy probably has a connection to Adrian the lambo guy cause I imagine it would be near to impossible to contact him independently now.

Tonight was ridiculous. So boring. Just give us 4 nights of the drama over the couple that leaves if they aren’t giving us anything else. The walkarounds with Marty and Alice were boring as bat shit.

Speaking of Lambo guy, rumours abound the reserves have leaked and they are low, with some saying he’s going to buy them all and comp off the whole resort.

Episode 13 Airing Monday September 2

Three weeks into The Block and it’s no picnic for our five Blockheads as the reality of The Block well and truly sets in.

Ricky and Haydn are starting again with a new building team headed by former Block contestant Ducan Miller. The boys couldn’t complete their bathroom last week after numerous waterproofing disasters and are looking forward to a fresh start.

While Jesse and Paige did well last week scoring a 10 from Darren Palmer, their Block journey continues to be rocky. As they start building this week’s guest bedroom, Paige is overwhelmed and she accuses her fiancee of not listening to her and understanding her struggles.

Alice Stolz from Domain and Marty Fox arrive on The Block and go to each house to give advice, which throws Kylie and Brad. Kylie isn’t happy with what she hears from Alice and Marty, after they encourage her to do a kids room for this week’s guest bedroom. The Cairns couple are flat after the visit and Kylie feels attacked.

The Blockheads are all in the midst of selecting their real estate agents, which has caused more issues for Jesse and Paige.

Courtney and Grant head to the Sorrento Hotel for their winners dinner, for a meal cooked by celebrity chef Scott Pickett. They are greeted by Block legends Alisa and Lysandra who pass on all of their wisdom.

While Courtney and Grant are at their fancy dinner, Ricky and Haydn cook the chumps dinner for coming last in judging the previous week.

Kylie and Brad decide not to attend the BBQ.

EPISODE 14: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3,

Paige has woken up in a much better mood and she is on a mission as she heads to Chadstone to buy some sheets.

Kylie is all over the shop with what she wants to do with her and Brad’s guest bedroom. She had no plans to do a kid’s room but Alice Stolz from Domain and Marty Fox have highly recommended she go down that route.

There are real issues with Courtney and Grant and their builders, and that explodes after the builders gossip with Tina in McCafe about not being paid. Grant claims he has paid the builders but the relationship has gone downhill fast, and he calls them “snakes” for talking behind their backs at The Block.

It all comes to ahead and Grant sacks his builders on the spot and they leave immediately.

Jesse and Paige have more woes as the day continues. They keep choosing furniture for their room that isn’t available and this sends Paige spiralling. She tells Jesse that she doesn’t want to be on The Block as they continue to fight, after Jesse heads to Melbourne on his own to try and find the furniture they are after.

What Jesse and Paige haven’t mastered yet on The Block is ordering furniture ahead, especially for The Block Shop which helps out contestants every week.

In House No.4 Brad is in trouble with The Block builders Nine In Six after he plasterers worked overnight without any supervision after they snuck into The Block. His site is shut down.

Haydn drives Kylie, Mimi, Paige and Courtney in The Block bus for a shopping trip which is loud and raucous, and they nickname him the Daddy of The Block.

At night back on The Block, Courtney and Grant notice that Jesse and Paige next door are arguing a lot, and point out it’s one-sided, that is Paige not being happy with Jesse.

What the shit was tonight’s episode? Give me strength.

And now we have to wait til MONDAY for the walkout they’ve been promoting since last Wednesday

Episode 15 Wednesday September 4

The Blockheads wake up for a day’s work and head to the McCafe where they find a mannequin in a vintage Gucci dress. Whoever wins this week, will take home the Gucci dress.

The Blockheads continue to build their guest bedroom with the usual dramas. Kylie still isn’t convinced a kid’s room is the right choice for her and Brad, but she is following the advice of judge Marty Fox and Alice Stolz despite the fact it’s not what she would do.

Ricky and Haydn are having more issues with their waterproofing and the bathroom they failed to finish last week.

Scott and Shelley do their walk arounds on The Block, with Shelley explaining what the Gucci dress on the mannequin is all about.

A challenge is called, our Blockheads are going fishing. The prize for this challenge is huge, a $120,000 Bar Crusher fishing boat that they will sell in their house on auction day.

The first part of the challenge sees the contestants fish on Phillip Island, and then return to The Block to cook the fish and present it for judging.

Ricky and Haydn, who love fishing in real life, take out the challenge and they are over the moon. They can’t believe they will now sell their house at auction time with a Bar Crusher in the driveway.

Jesse and Paige - especially Paige - really struggle with the challenge. She just isn’t having a good time on The Block.

I found it quite ironic coming from the block.
