The Amazing Race Australia

I was sort of enjoying this season despite Beau and it being stuck in Asia, though I had to throw in the towel on Wednesday’s ep during the Mahjong tile challenge when Darren & Tristan (who I like btw) blatantly cheated and roped in a women to basically do the challenge for them. WTF? What happened to perseverance or taking a rigged time penalty?

I will say props to all those on Survivor who had to live with George and resisted the urge to harm him. Pam is a saint.

Thankfully the US version has found it groove back and added airport flight drama.

But is there anything in the rules about not asking locals for help in challenges?

A-Bec-nophobia: An Influencer’s Irrational Fear Of Deep Fried Spiders.

Bec Judd and Kate Twigley Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition continued in Angkor Wat, Cambodia where six remaining teams got a disgusting (seriously, how are we allowed to do this to them?) taste for Cambodian life that saw sisters Bec Judd and Kate Twigley call time on their Race. This was the seventh leg of the race, but it was eight legs that ruined it all.

A spiritual journey led the teams into one of the largest religious structures in the world to search for enlightenment with a real-life Monk. Teams had to bring an offering to a monk that they could only see from the highest point of the site.

Race besties Darren and Tristan and Bec and Kate have formed somewhat of an alliance. In a move that would make former racer King George proud, the alliance chose to give Emma and Hayley a bum steer by telling them to go the wrong way. But karma was on their side when Emma and Hayley managed to overtake Bec and Kate while enroute to the next challenge.

Next up, some teams’ fighting spirit were tested while learning some local martial arts, while others had to build a traditional spirit house.

Remember the bull’s penis eating challenge? Well, that was child’s play compared to what the teams endured next. This was the moment that every celebrity questioned why they decided to go on the Race.

Teams had to channel their inner MasterChef, needing to cook a meal before consuming said meal. On the menu today, three deep fried tarantulas plus four bowls of assorted bugs and grubs. Hayley cried her way through her leggy meal and Angie gagged with every chomp. Meanwhile, Tristan just wolfed it down like it was nobody’s business.

When Bec and Kate spotted the tarantulas, it was all over. Bec Judd suffers from arachnophobia, and despite Kate being the one to do the eating, she couldn’t bear to be in the same vicinity as the spiders, so they decided to take the time penalty which resulted in a 60 minute time penalty upon reaching the Pit Stop.

Darren and Tristan were first to reach the Pit Stop but sadly, thanks to their time penalty, Bec and Kate were officially last to check in.

Tomorrow night, batten down the hatches for the tightest Race to the finish thus far. It’s all fun and games until someone comes last.

Rules say that locals can help in navigation and tasks.

Glad that the time penalty was long enough to eliminate the team that used it tonight.

Why was it this time the team that didn’t complete the roadblock had to serve the time penalty at the pit stop rather than at the task location?

And the building traditional spirit house detour task was very similar to the fruit basket roadblock in Langkawi in episode 4.

1 hour time penalties are still an absolute joke though. In some instances it would benefit you to skip a task.

Agree. Should be at least 2 hours.

The singing task was right up Emma’s alley, given she was a former member of The Wiggles.

With five teams left and four episodes remaining, it was obvious that there would be non-elimination legs.

Why is Emma so different on this show compared to TV interviews? She’s giving early Delta

Which is what exactly?

Would A Non-Elimination Leg Float Ya Boat?

Harry And Teddy Dodge Elimination On The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

In Cambodia, the final five celebrity teams left behind the majesty of Angkor Wat to navigate the waters of a local floating village on the mighty lake of Tonle Sap. They faced hard work and tested their skills and team dynamics as they lived like locals for a day.

First up, it was back to school for our celebrity teams. After shopping for school supplies on land, they travelled by boat to a floating classroom. At the Chong Kneas School they learned and performed a song in the Khmer language taught by the local school children.

Darren isn’t one to normally shy away from centre stage, but this was a tough song to learn in the local lingo. Meanwhile Jana and Cor’s mother son relationship was put to the test yet again, with Jana letting the tears flow. Emma and Hayley were in their element singing and dancing with children, receiving an A+ after one attempt.

At the Detour, the teams had to choose between farming or fishing for local food staples.

Our celebs will all leave this Race with new appreciation for shrimp cocktails after seeing the effort these villagers go to catch their shrimp, none more so than Darren and Tristan who managed to sink their boat.

Meanwhile at the floating farming challenge, Harry and Teddy channelled their inner grandmas, while Jana and Cor were busy bickering again. Thankfully all they needed was a good ol’ hug to reset the vibes, and after several attempts, they managed to complete the Detour.

Our racers then battled the scorching temperatures while enduring the physically challenging task of hulling rice. Darren was not having a rice day, with blisters and sweat pouring from him. Cor was struggling with the task, and while bickering with his mum (again), ended up kicking over his bowl of rice. We need another reset hug, stat!

Emma and Hayley managed to maintain the lead they enjoyed for most of this leg, hitting the mat first. After a desperate sprint to the pitstop, Harry and Teddy were last to arrive on the mat, only metres behind Darren and Tristan. Incredibly, this was a pre-determined non-elimination leg, the boys race another day!

Next Wednesday, the fight for the final four spots is on, but which team will lose the battle and will Jana and Cor bicker again? (spoiler alert, they do)

The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition. Continues Wednesday, 1 November At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.

Delta used to be very polished and media trained that she came across as fake

Well, you’re ridiculous. Delta was only 18 on Neighbours and was hardly “media trained” in interviews.

You seem to have a problem with people being genuinely nice in real life.

It wasn’t just help, they were told just about everything. It was basically done for them.

Australian Amazing Race has always had shifting rules, usually from one episode to the next. It also doesn’t help that Darren and Beau are friends IRL. Why didn’t Jackie & Emma just go drag a local in, especially considering how long it took Jackie and Ben.

If you can’t do a challenge you take a time penalty or switch if its a detour.

All Over For Jana At The Ninth Hurdle.

Jana Pittman and Son, Cor, Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

In their race to win $100,000 for their chosen charities, our top five celebrity teams trekked through Cambodia’s second-largest city, Siem Reap, in the tightest contest yet.

From Speed Bump spin outs, family feuds and bicycle blunders, no celebrity was safe on the ninth leg of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

Running off to join the circus, our teams had to choose between a comedy routine or an intense balancing act. Thanks to a previous injury resulting in limited feeling in the sole of her left foot, it soon became clear that it would be near impossible for Angie to complete the balancing act which saw the mum and daughter duo change Detours. But the acrobatic comedy routine was no better for Angie who was also sporting a back issue, so back to the balancing Detour they went. Incredibly, after several attempts, Angie ended up being toe-tally awesome and successfully completed the challenge.

Next up, racers had to deliver 40 brooms by bicycles to a furniture shop. This was also where Harry and Teddy, who came last in the previous non-elimination leg, would find themselves having to complete their Speed Bump, which meant they would need to collect a further 40 brooms and deliver them by hand. When Teddy heard this, he put on his cranky pants and was ready to sweep the floor of the Race officials. But after a bit (understatement) of a vent, he swapped over to his big boy pants and picked up some big boy brooms and got it done.

Angie wheelie couldn’t catch a break today and took a tumble while riding her bike, meanwhile Jana and Cor failed their first attempt thanks to the brooms not being tied down properly.

At the final challenge, teams had to craft silk from lotus flowers which left our celebrities covered in mud, sweat and tears.

It was an incredibly tedious task drawing out the silk from the flowers, and if there is one thing that is guaranteed in a tedious task, it’s bickering between Jana and Cor.

Emma and Hayley were first to arrive at the Pitstop, for the second leg in a row, followed closely by Harry and Teddy who managed to make up plenty of time at the silk challenge. Jana and Cor were sadly the last team to hit the mat and were eliminated from the Race.

Tomorrow, marooned on the rugged coastline of Borneo, our final four celebrity teams risk life and limb as they race towards the Grand Finale.

Continues Thursday, 2 November At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.

After the episode aired last night, Jana wrote a long post on Instagram, saying she was heartbroken by some comments on social media criticising her parenting skills and bickering with Cor during the race.

Holy Mackerel, That Was A Close One.

Alli and Angie Escape Elimination On The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

Alli and Angie Escape Elimination On The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

For the tenth leg, our celebs embarked on a breathtaking journey to the stunning island of Borneo, where nature’s wonders collided with the absolute panic and mayhem of four celebrity teams scrambling towards the grand finale of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

Amidst Borneo’s wondrous coastal backdrop, something fishy was going on. At a bustling local fish market, teams had to clean and gut six fish. Arriving at the challenge first, Emma, an Irish Dancer with strong legs but lacking in upper body strength, struggled to chop fish, which saw Harry and Teddy o-fish-ally overtake the ladies to take the lead.

Next up, teams had to choose between Saving The Mangroves or Saving The Reef.

Darren and Tristan, and Alli and Angie chose to Save The Reef by collecting five kilograms of dead coral and gluing 15 living coral fragments to their surface before swimming the coral back out into the ocean. It seems Darren’s time playing the role of a Marine Scientist on Sea Change came in handy because this reef had no beef with him when he successfully completed the challenge first.

At the mangroves, teams had to kayak three kilometres to collect 36 seeds from a mangrove forest and return to plant them in a pot. Harry and Teddy may be built for kayaking, but sadly they didn’t have their listening ears on and only collected 24 seeds which saw them having to backtrack in order to collect 12 more. Meanwhile, Emma and Hayley were A grade students, collecting extra seeds just in case, putting them back in first place.

At the Road Block, one team member had to have sharp eyes and even sharper memory in order to spot nine masks on a bush trail and then remember the order in which they appeared. When Angie took a tumble and reinjured her back, she lost her place and had to return to the start, working together with Emma and Harry who she found on the trail. Meanwhile, Darren the sole operator, managed to beat them all and was off.

Teams then had to swim to find a floating coconut in the sea and bring it to Beau at the Pit Stop. Darren and Tristan were the first team to check in, followed closely by Harry and Teddy, and Emma and Hayley. Alli and Angie were the last team to hit the mat, but tears were flowing when Beau told them it was in fact a non-elimination leg.

Next Wednesday, in the penultimate episode, the battle is on when the final four teams fight for a place in the final three. But one wrong move will mean one team misses out on a history making Grand Finale.

Continues Wednesday, 8 November At 7.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.

According to the preview shown at the end of tonight’s episode, the remaining three teams would start at the same time, rather than with the order they finished at the pitstop in the previous leg.

The Race That Stopped The Influencers.

Harry and Teddy Eliminated From The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition.

With four teams vying for three spots in the Grand Finale, the stakes had never been higher on The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition .

Racing through the highland jungles of Borneo, the final Intersection saw the teams pair up to collect ingredients and breakfast for the local orangutans.

Angie and Alli were responsible for calling their four hairy breakfast guests - they rang and the orangutans came. Their challenge buddies, Darren and Tristan, prepared the food while having to remember specific details about their orangutans, from their birthdays to favourite foods to fun facts. Darren went bananas over the experience, having dreamt of this moment since reading The Jungle Book as a wee lad.

Nervous wees out of the way, Emma and Hayley were on a mission to be the first all-female team to win the Race, but pairing with Harry and Teddy on this challenge put a bump in that plan as the boys struggled to remember the fruits they prepared, wasting a lot of time.

After finishing last in the previous non-elimination leg, Alli and Angie then had to tackle their Speed Bump, a test of their dexterity and coolness under pressure. The ladies weren’t here to monkey about, managing to smash the challenge out of the jungle.

Harry and Teddy are great at challenges, it’s the getting to challenges that has been their downfall, once again struggling with directions while enroute to the next one, putting them in last place.

Next, the teams headed to the Sarawak River where they had to tightly bind a traditional bamboo raft before paddling six kilometres through rapids and croc infested waters to receive their next clue. After confusing a rock for a crocodile, it was no more fun and games for Darren and Tristan, meanwhile Alli and Angie managed to capsize their raft (did we mention the croc infested waters part?).

At the Roadblock, one member of each team had to compete in a blowpipe challenge to win their final clue.

Darren and Tristan left the blowpipe challenge in first place and were legging it to the Pit Stop, but thanks to a wrong turn, Alli and Angie managed to overtake the boys, allowing the mum and daughter duo to hit the carpet first. Sadly, Harry and Teddy were last to arrive and were eliminated from the Race.

Tomorrow night, in the ultra-modern metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, three teams will race to the final Pit Stop. Get the tissues ready, because this is a history making, tear jerking final leg that you cannot miss.
