In conjunction with Rugby League World Cup 2026 Seven will extend its successful The Agenda Setters brand to Rugby League, with a new panel show beginning from round one of the NRL season and continuing through to the end of RLWC2026.
Probably long overdue given it’s the biggest sport in the 1st and 3rd biggest states (in terms of population), and is growing in other states as well + Nine having several AFL shows despite not having the rights since 2006.
It was meant to start around origin time but it must’ve been shelved for round 1 next year.
Was meant to feature Denan Kemp, Willie Mason and Shane Webcke?
This is a great idea!
It will be interesting to see if any journalists are involved in this show.
As far as I know, rugby league reporters from News Corp only appear on Fox League shows like NRL 360, while SMH reporters are tied to Nine’s shows such as The Footy Show and 100% Footy.
I forgotten that there was talk about this show airing around Origin time for this year.
Impressed that it will now air from Round One until the end of the Rugby League World Cup.
Willie Mason does some reports for Sydney News, so perhaps he will be involved with this show?
Agree, it’ll be good to have a weekly rugby league show on Seven again.
Evokes fond memories of seeing “Controversy Corner” with Rex Mossop during “Sportsworld” in the early 80s.
There was a 1 hour show that Seven ran in the late 90s at 11am on Sundays. Can’t remember what it was called or who was on that. That’s the last time I recall Seven having a regular weekly rugby league show.
The last time Seven did a weekly rugby league show was The Matty Johns Show in 2010.
That could change given DAZN’s ownership of Fox League, potentially
Please no!! They’re taking over these shows!!
Kane Cornes will be hosting according to his instagram. Interesting choice and looks like will be in SEN Studio in Melbourne probably?
There must be an AFL version then?
He’s taking the piss
The general show for The Agenda Setters has always been AFL-focused.
Saying this to a MediaSpy member who resides in NRL territory, as I for one proudly reside in AFL territory. ![]()
Matt White to be a contributor for The Agenda Setters
While restricted from airing any league footage, it still did rate reasonably well given the early timeslot and more family-friendly segments. Unlike the more established (and more successful) Footy Show that aired on Nine, the Matty Johns show wasn’t an NRL-sanctioned program (as far as I know).
It’s going to be a lot easier you would think to set up this show now with the Triple M link than it might have been prior, given they may be able to share talent that don’t have Fox affiliation (although I doubt anyone is going to do it for free lol).
At the very least to get some joint interviews or have a Triple M expert join the panel each week.
Is this still happening? Top post says begins Round 1 of the NRL season and that is Sunday week.
