Fantastic find STV 8 used this test card back In the late 80s & early 90s before going to a network VIC TV test card around 1993.

I wonder if Rhys has got the closedown or station open this could have been attached to.

I have a VIC TV Mildura closedown & I have been trying to digitise my VHS regional TV collection but can’t get my hands on a VCR.

Maybe you could offer it to collectors who can digitise these things.

Tried picking up one of these?

Cleaner version of the test card from GMV 6 Shepperton. It’s supposedly from 1980 but the closedown sequence played Advance Australia Fair which was still a few years off officially becoming our National Anthem

Around the time of the adoption of colour television, Advance Australia Fair was the national anthem. The anthem was reverted to God Save the Queen in early 1976 months after the adoption of colour. As a result, many stations not wishing to waste the money on a new GSTQ colour film reel (would be weird to dig up a monochrome GSTQ film reel in the age of colour) continued to use Advance Australia Fair at closedown, even after it was officially adopted as the national anthem in 1984.

I think ABC was playing Advance Australia Fair in its start-up sequence in the early 1980s. It’s the one I always remember seeing as a kid.

And it appears ABN-2 was playing it in its close-down sequence in 1979
