Starting a day early has worked out for them
Just another excuse for a cash grab by TA. Might wanna pay back the $63 million to Vic Gov.

Medvedev went to bed at 6:30am after his 3:40am finish
16 years ago today, Marcos Baghdatis and Lleyton Hewitt played in a match that finished at 4:35am AEDT which is the latest finish to a grand slam.
The Australian Open is called the Midnight Slam.
When will Novak retire? So sick of his arrogant personality. So bored of his tennis. Gets a bit stale after a while. Seems to be more arrogant people across this sport be it players, coaches, managers and so on, vs any other sport I’ve seen.
I’m sick of him too
I think someone mentioned he wants to do another 3 or 4 years. Filling up his coffers in his tax haven. At least the Fed had class.
God help us when he starts losing. That time will come as the body starts to age. Then out comes the sore loser personality with excuses galore. He wouldn’t let anyone beat him in a GS Final, would retire due medical or some BS, only on HIS terms.
Demon impressive, after a young rising Italian qualifier threw what he had at him, but as Courier mentioned earlier, this is a get out there and just get it done, almost a gift, could’ve been a seed or top player and been a very difficult epic by contrast
Big game for him Monday. Assuming he will be up against Rublev, I hope he has learnt lessons from the last time they met as Alex really struggled in the back half and fell apart. I sort of disagree with one commentator tonight on radio who mentioned that Alex will likely hit the QF if Rublev loses tonight. Alex needs to be able to get past these better players if he wants to be a better player, not just hope by chance the better players fall apart prior.
Really needs to start hitting QFs. Been bowing out at 4R for the last few years.
Surprised he’s not scheduled for Sunday night
Normally at Grand Slams, players play every second day, though with the first round spanning three days this year, some players had a two-day break.
Is anyone watching this Novak game? What a show off.
I’m watching the game, and i don’t find him as a show off at all.
But i can understand why just a handful find him annoying.
He beat A. Mannarino 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the Quarter Final.
I’ve always enjoyed having big matches during the day, not everything has to be about the ‘glitz’ of prime time. It’s good the broadcast backs-up with an A-team of commentators too, Seven also used to do it, such as McAvaney and Courier calling Nadal at 2pm.
Fritz v Tsitsipas, great contest on at the moment, tense and looked like an upset was brewing, but Nine taking world feed (Dave Culbert, Mark Philippoussis and Roger Rasheed). I think as it was originally on 9Gem, they expected Djokovic v Mannarino to go longer. Both channels at last check were showing this, Gem will most likely go to another match now.

Yes. He is the worst

For the record, there has not been a triple bagel at a Major since the 1993 French Open, when Sergi Bruguera recorded such a scoreline against Thierry Champion.
Since then, the closest anyone has come to a triple bagel was when Andy Murray led Alberto Martin 6-0, 6-0, 5-0 before Martin pegged back a game at the death, in the first round of the 2007 Australian Open (Murray eventually won 6-0, 6-0, 6-1).

That’s a new term to me. I’ve heard of doughnuts for 0 but not bagels.
‘Bagel’ is the term more commonly used in tennis, as is ‘duck’ in cricket.
Jim Courier commenting on how his serve is getting better as the game is going on. Then does a double fault and loses the set.
A good match so far, AO/Nine would be happy, a shame that Alex hasn’t been able to capitalise on a few opportunities he’s had so far, Andrey (as we knew coming in) is a damn tough opponent (but could be far worse for Demon and would be for many other players)

Commentators curse. Happens in all sports.
He’s a jinx.
