The Melbourne Cup Carnival is one of the leading sporting events in the world. Now, more than ever, Australia needs something to celebrate.
It’s about the people and that awesome Aussie spirit. The racing and the quality and power of the athletes, both equine and human.
So, with a spring in our step, let’s remind ourselves that there’s joy to be found in the little things and embrace the rich history and the festivity that belongs to all of us - the 2021 Melbourne Cup Carnival .
It all begins with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday, 30 October, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday, 2 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday, 4 November and Mackinnon Stakes Day on Saturday, 6 November, live and free on Network 10 and 10 Play.
Michael Felgate saddles up to host the four-day racing spectacular alongside racing presenter Caty Price, mounting yard expert Brittany Taylor, Group 1 winning jockey James Winks and form expert David Gately. International racing expert Francesca Cumani will join in the action as we cross to her in the UK for her insights and analysis.
Network 10 is also thrilled to announce Lexus Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne joins our stellar field.
One of Australia’s most sought after media and racing personalities, Michelle captured the hearts of a nation back in 2015 when she became the only female to win the event.
Michelle’s triumph catapulted her into stardom where she is now a highly successful trainer, jockey and author.
Bringing the glitz and the glamour are Rob Mills and 10 News First ’s Kate Freebairn covering all things fashion and entertainment, including the Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn competition. Joining them is presenter Natalie Hunter who also has the privilege of presenting the winning trophies.
Revel in Cup Week with the 2021 Melbourne Cup Carnival broadcast live and free on Network 10 and 10 Play on demand.
Seems this years coverage might be a little paired back, since Michael, Caty and Brittany were all involved in last years coverage. Will be interesting to see how they navigate Studio / Trackside all day coverage with a potentially smaller team.
Also wondered if they could leverage the cup coverage on Paramount+ somehow if their rights included this option? No ads, additional coverage, different live streams etc.
I was just having a look on 10 play, and after 10’s latest press release about the upcoming Melbourne Cup failed to mention Quarters and Gorgi returning as hosts, I noticed that they’ve add some extra show titles for things like Melbourne Cup Carnival History & Melbourne Cup Carnival Statistics with an image of Quarters, Gorgi & Brittany Taylor.
Admittedly the pictures of the duo as the same as last year, but there wasn’t one there previously and was just a fairly plain Melbourne Cup title. So reading into this, they could possibly be back this year? If so, that’s good news.
Update, the images have all been switched out to Michael, Brittany and Caty per 10’s earlier press release so looks like Quarters & Coghlan are definitely out.
Shame to see either of them shunted from the coverage and to have had so much inconsistency in hosts for the 3 years they’ve had the rights so far.
This is technically not a new podcast, it was previously a collaboration between RSN & 10 hosted by Gareth Hall but good to see it’s been brought in house this year and using Michael Felgate to host.
Would be surprised if they didn’t have something in the works for Football too.
They would have the Melbourne Cup, MotoGP, F1, NBL and Australian Football (A-Leagues, Socceroos, Matildas, FFA Cup etc.), if i’m not mistaken?
As unlikely as it is, I would love to see them acquire the free-to-air rights to both the NRL and the EPL.
Could you imagine how great their Saturday night lineup would be if it were to consist of the A-League Mens earlier in the evening, and the 9.30pm/10pm Premier League match immediately afterwards?
Foxtel/kayo as it works out to be $6m per year for all online and Moto3, moto2 & MotoGP. Having all categories, exclusive rights generates buyers of their platforms.
They would understand the cost/benefits of having the sport. It potential would have paid overs to keep it; yes due to Stan and/or CBS Ten looking for sport now, but that what competition does.
Herald Sun reports that Georgie Tunny is joining Channel 10’s Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage. Georgie will be a racing reporter covering all the news from the stalls.
