Ten (Southern Cross)

Spot on!

Nothing stopping WIN being a dual Nine/Ten affiliate in current SCA Ten markets thereby leaving SCA on their own to source independent content. And or the more likely scenario of a WIN owned TEN having SCA TEN markets as affiliates. Being TEN currently owns no regional markets unlike 7 and 9 who do, there would be no requirement to divest a license for a company breaching the one TV license to a market rule in aggregated and metro markets. This would still be a headache for ACMA as there would still be arguments about who has effective editorial control in WIN markets of two licenses, the direct WIN ones and the SCA ones sourcing content from a WIN owned TEN. The sooner the regional affiliates are swallowed up by a metro partner as was the case with the Prime taken over by Seven, the better for all concerned including viewers. How much bloody longer do WIN viewers have to put up with WIN delaying the rollout of 9GEM-HD? If NEC directly owned WIN market stations, they would have upgraded 9GEM to HD ages ago.

My TV guide is displaying the regular 10 schedule beyond July 1st in SCA areas.

Why wouldn’t it?

i think there was some discussion a while back that SCA’s deal with Ten expires on 30 June, though realistically, where else are SCA and Ten going to go? Seven is stitched up, and Nine/WIN is locked in for a few more years.

I very much expect that SCA will sign a extended contract with ten in the near future or it may already have.

They may not even have a deal by 30 June, there is precedent for a monthly rolling contract between the parties up till such time as a proper deal can be finalised.

Edit: Although an article today suggests a deal is indeed imminent:

Extension confirmed today for six months pending a longer deal which will look at further integration of Sales functions.

SCA REACHES AGREEMENT WITH NETWORK 10 TO CONTINUE ITS REGIONAL AFFILIATION AGREEMENT

SCA has announced that it has reached agreement with Network 10 to continue to broadcast channels 10, 10 Bold, 10 Peach and 10 Shake in the three aggregated television markets of regional Queensland, Southern NSW, and regional Victoria until 31 December 2023.

SCA and Network 10 have enjoyed a constructive and collaborative relationship since SCA commenced broadcasting Network 10 programming in these markets on 1 July 2021. The parties’ current commercial terms will continue until 31 December 2023. The parties are in ongoing discussions regarding further extension of the affiliation.

As part of these ongoing discussions, SCA and Network 10 have agreed to explore opportunities to deliver further value to their advertising partners. This will include greater collaboration and synergy between the parties’ national sales teams in presenting advertising and sponsorship opportunities to national advertisers and agencies.

In the meantime, SCA will continue to broadcast Network 10’s highly successful and fan favourite programs including MasterChef Australia, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Hunted, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Australian Survivor, The Masked Singer, The Project, and live NBL, Isuzu A-League, Liberty W-League, Socceroos, Matildas and FFA Cup matches.

Jarrod Villani, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating and Commercial Officer, Paramount Australia and New Zealand, said: “Over the past two years, SCA’s strength in regional Australia has ensured a great experience for audiences and advertisers across Network 10 content. Our ongoing collaboration will only prove to strengthen our services and opportunities afforded to advertisers and further cement our successful partnership."

John Kelly, SCA’s incoming Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, said: “We welcome the extension of our affiliation with Network 10 and look forward to promoting 10’s suite of premium content in regional Australia to deliver outstanding results for advertisers and reliable returns for SCA’s shareholders.”

Only a six month renewal?

Maybe the renewals going forward will be every 6 months

Potentially until they find a buyer for their licenses. Otherwise seems rather pointless given WIN and Prime have deals sewn up rather indefinitely.

Maybe by then paramount might buy the licence’s

Prime is now O&O by 7, so there’s no more affiliation deals there.

It’s a bridging deal - they’re negotiating a greater partnership (at least thats what SCA are claiming) between the two but couldn’t get it done prior to the expiry of the existing deal.

It might be cover for an incoming sale deal, it might not.

My little radar is thinking the same

Feels like a bit of this is going on.

SCA: Please buy us out!
Paramount: No
SCA: Pretty please?
Paramount: No but sign this so you still have something to show next week while you come up with a realistic offer.
