Ten (Southern Cross) -- SCA selling to Ten

More that it’s very easy for Harvey Norman to spend millions on TV (and no doubt getting plenty of bonus/fill too)

Looks like SCA might not be able to sell the TV assets for a long time.

I reckon because SCA wouldn’t lower their prices for the Black Friday sales.

Every day is Black Friday at SCA.

Looks like aiming to finalise in February - wonder if WIN will follow suit with NNSW

Very interesting. Wonder how they’ll handle the local updates - whether each state will now control the updates or they’ll come to an arrangement for SCA to continue producing them in Tasmania for the time being?

I would have thought they’ll do them out of Sydney and Melbourne, and maybe Brisbane.

I’m pleased to see there’s a final breakthrough. Is SCA going to sell the other TV stations to 7 network? I was beginning to think that SCA might never sell TV stations.

One would hope so, would make the most sense as they’d have the facilities and likely the resources to do them.

Could we maybe reopen this thread, or is it better suited here since as far as I can tell the non-10 assets aren’t being sold?

Release at the bottom says it’s still in active negotiations with multiple parties on its other TV assets.

Hopefully we will see the revival of Mildura Digital Television, when the sale is finalised.

SCA had nothing to do with 10 Mildura, it was a partnership between Prime/Seven and WIN.

Why would the sale mean that 10 would gain access? SCA never operated the station, and 10 would be required to invest in transmission infrastructure, etc, as well as gain a licence to broadcast in the region.

Absolutely, also given 10 have only acquired the 3 biggest license assets from SCA here - seemingly not interested in some of those smaller broadcast areas I could not seem them looking at Mildura at all.

Combined QLD, VIC and SNSW are (market population) around 35% large than the PER market

There will be extra cost, yes, but it will be a great opportunity to unify the Victorian broadcast market with the Mildura licence, and fix up the mistakes made by WIN/Prime and ABA/ACMA over the past three decades.
