Ten On-Air Presentation

Surely 10 does something like this during the early hours :winking_face_with_tongue:
10 does get a bit quirky at night
We’re having a moment... be right back!

They did, but that was an older one, one (from 2024 nonetheless) that was well before the eventual relaunch of their on-air presentations, IDs and graphics in July of this year. I would assume no holding slide officially created by Ten.

The Nick stream is back up.

Is it an old system or is it cloud based these days?

Pretty certain it has to be cloud-based, considering that the system has an “all else fails” option to just run off anything it could.

I don’t think an older system can do that, otherwise we would have stuck with a black screen for an hour. (Keep in mind the outage was so large that a breakdown screen wasn’t even able to be put on air.)

Speaking of early hours, 10 has gone to home shopping.
Time for the night shift to start working their magic behind-the-scenes

Not necessarily. The interesting thing about TV playout is it often pulls files from multiple places. Graphics/overlays come from one set of servers, programs another, ads/promos from another. Everything gets cached locally on the PC that plays it out, but the cache is often pulled in the moments before it goes to air. Older systems require you to insert the right drive bays or LTO tapes from a library, instead of it all being ‘online’ all the time (TV content libraries are too big to keep on a NAS/SAN all the time).

This means it’ll keep playing what is has locally for a period, even if everything else falls over.

In contrast, radio playout often has every single file online constantly. You can fit your entire library on one SAN/NAS easily.

A lot of TV cloud systems use AWS as a host and then render a file on the server that plays it out and you view it via that.

Did 10 go out during the Cloudstrike outage?

It did not go out anywhere.

Yep I thought so. I wonder what @MossPickle was talking about then?

Sorry, the spelling tricked me into thinking that was last night’s issue.

Which can be perfectly summed up in the Cloudstrike phrase.

10 was knocked out that day:

Sorry ran out of likes so… :+1::+1::+1::sweat_smile:

“We’re having a moment alright?”

Do we know what holding screen they put up last night in the end?
