1991 Channel 10 Melbourne ad breaks during late night movie. Includes ident and promos.
This was very much the last year (1992) before Ten opted to push for a more younger demographic. Resulting in Ten becoming the youth network of the 90s.
the change to āThe Entertainment Networkā (1991) was what triggered the shift towards younger viewers. However it still carried some broader-demographic shows in the years to follow. It couldnāt be about young people all the time. Murder She Wrote was probably under some legacy program deal from the 1980s, and there were older-skewing shows like Columbo and British murder mysteries shown on a Saturday night because younger viewers were deemed to not be watching TV on a Saturday.
This particular refresh was one of the best ever from any Australian network, and Iāll always remember the changeover day. Without social media or tip-offs, it was a WTF moment in this teenagerās head.
I also think they pulled Hinch off way too early. It was a solid product and would still work today (but with whom?).
From July 1992.
Two Olympic related promos; one to advertise that programming remains normal and the other one tries a sporting theme:

A great collection of network promos - really well produced IMO, including the launch ad for Inside Edition.
Long term they should have kept the news at 6.00pm.
