Ten News +

Brings to mind the old Soviet joke about the newspapers: “There’s no truth in the News and no news in the Truth.”

Great article. Most won’t read it though! :frowning:

Agree - ratings are too low for a show that airs in a critical time 6 nights a week. Plus, the general feedback hasn’t been very positive. It is slightly reminiscent of The Project, a case of not knowing what it wants to be. I can’t see it point of difference or key reason to tune in. There’s a promo each day for the next night, none of which look like must see TV or would make you want to give up watching the local news on 7 or 9.

Good article - but their history with news shows/bulletins is very much not that

And… the difference is over 10 times less than what’s airing on its rivals, an issue those other shows didn’t have

Having MC on that list is dubious and two of them are Working Dog shows which are pretty fucking reliable.

183,000 last night down from 199,000 last Monday. Compared to last year - 10 News at the start of the night and MasterChef later are both up, but there is a middle order collapse!

Ten News → 10 News+ → DOND → MasterChef
380,000 → 183,000 → 296,000 → 684,000

Monday July 15 2024

Ten News → DOND → The Project → MasterChef
365,000 → 355,000 → 415,000 → 659,000

Also worth noting the 10News+ reach was 533,000 compared to 925,000 for The Project.

Update:

An idea I had for the opening format, rather than closing out 10News with the audio bed, do a live 2 box cross (like The Circle used to do with the morning news) and then go in to headlines.

Also the wipes between each headline, would look visually better with the red circles as seen before going to breaks, rather than the 10News+ logo between each vision.

That Perth figure feels a bit hard to believe….

Just two weeks after it replaced woke nightly gibberfest The Project, the program has fallen out of the top 40 most-watched program each night, with less than 100,000 viewers tuning in on average across the country’s critical five-city metro market.

That’s less than the number of people watching late night repeats of Griff’s Great Australian Rail Trip on the ABC and British period drama Father Brown on Seven, according to the official figures.

Not a defense of the program’s ratings but the information seems incorrect (or selectively misleading). Of the nights that 5-city numbers have been posted the program has been above 100,000. So probably on the 2 Friday nights it wasn’t. Monday it was 135,000 as posted above. Article also says it is being beaten by repeats of Neighbours on 10 Comedy which is also incorrect. It has been beaten by Neighbours but that is the 4pm broadcast.

Not sure of the significance of Griff’s Great Australian Rail Trip but that is on ABC on Thursday nights about 9:50pm, rather than late night.

Looks like highest Perth number so far; inaccuracies tend to happen when dealing with small numbers of viewers.

They call 10News+ an “ailing program” and detail the “devastating ratings nosedive” where it’s now apparently getting beat by repeats of Neighbours.

They are desperately hoping it turns things around because it replaced “woke nightly gibberfest The Project”.

It also reveals Denham and Amelia insisted on signing 2 year contracts.

Quality commentary from The Australian

Can’t blame them given the huge risk, although if it is pulled they’re probably contractually obliged to do I’m a Celeb or something instead.

So when 10 went un-woke did they go un-broke? Or is 10 News+ also woke?

I would too.

A few here said Sandra should be involved prior to show launching. I think we can now see why she opts to stay away from these experimental programmes.

The music bed on this Fantastic Four interview is so distracting. It needs to be brought down a bit.

Just admit it, 10News+ is an epic fail! Pull it off and put something else on!

I said this and I stand by it. Firstly, she is a more experienced presenter so would make it more watchable. Secondly, they have more hope of attracting an audience with Sandra fronting it than these two. It wouldn’t do well still, but I’d argue better. From her perspective, 10 will always try to save Sandra in cuts. These two though would want to hope their contract is tight.

Moving as an alternative to 60 Minutes could still work IMO. It is a more engaging format with live interviews and studio analysis. I think Sunday Night tried this format, but it must have been too expensive. The hosts would still be a problem though.
