Ten News Presenters and Reporters

I’m sure she definitely didn’t sour about getting shunted back to reporting after 10 went back to single newsreaders in 2017

The fact she didn’t leave there and then on principal is amazing.

Let’s say it was a tense newsroom after that. I moved to Sydney a few weeks later and was very grateful

Bit of an end of an era at ATV-10. Candice has actually been there longer than 15 years, she started later in 2010, believe she replaced Kate McGrath (who departed for CoS after 12 years on-air and later Nine and I believe recently reported poached by Seven). At the time she started, Ten still had the AFL rights and MasterChef was setting all-time ratings records, as well as several other hits like Merlin, Glee and Modern Family. Even Simpsons and Neighbours were still on the main channel and the news and current affairs division still had an Early, Morning, Late and Sunday political bulletins.

Came around the same time as a bunch of others including Emma O’Sullivan and Alyssia Morrison. From memory it covered the loss of Elesa Throwden (went to Sydney) and Alicia McMillan (also went behind the scenes at ATV). As a side note, also the rough time current head Nicole Strahan returned after a period of absence (was US Bureau Chief between 2007 and Michael Jackson’s death in 2009).

Wyatt survived many staff cuts and significant changes, including arguably her biggest time from 2014 co-anchoring the bulletin with Stephen Quartermain when they returned “Eyewitness News” and a double-header format, also when Brad McEwan returned from Sydney and veteran Mike Larkan was still there.

She ended up essentially taking over from Hermione Kitson as the main fill-in/most senior reporter from 2012. I was surprised to hear about her unpopularity amongst colleagues, think this occurred after they reverted back again to a single presenter, around 2016, prior to Jennifer Keyte defecting from Seven in mid-2018 and Quartermain moving back to sport.

Well done on a great innings, it’ll be a loss and hopefully Seven or Nine pick you up in some senior or prominent capacity  :waving_hand:

I think it was a bit later than that. Ben Lewis & Yasmin Paton were filling in before Candy Girl got screen tested.

Yes, in 2013, when Mal Walden was still there. Melanie Davies first filled-in in late 2012 after Kapalos was sacked, in a memorable bulletin where Walden made his feelings known at the very end.

They used to use George Donikian and Stephen Quartermain predominantly, especially after Mignon Henne left. There were others too like Kellie Morgan and Rakhal Ebeli, but mainly covered Mike Larkan’s weather. And Christi Malthouse (from Ten Sport), Ian Cohen, Rob Waters, Kelli Underwood, Nathan Templeton and Roger Oldridge would fill-in on sport.

Several of the aforementioned including Kitson and Wyatt also read afternoon updates occasionally, even Larkan, when Kapalos or Walden were unavailable. Saw Rebecca Morse (from Adelaide) do it once, when Adelaide’s bulletin was coming out of ATV Como.

I highly doubt this would happen but, with Kate Collins being axed from Nine, could Ten snap her up and replace the one who is currently on leave that i’ve forgotten the name of ha with Collins?

Kate Freebairn might be the name you’re after.

Yes! It was on the tip of my tongue, cheers!

I believe that would be illegal considering she’s on maternity leave?

If they fire her, yes.
