‘Switch on Nat’ promos airing in Perth this afternoon
New host I guess
Forgive my ignorance, but who would that be referring to again?
Natalie Forrest. I wonder how this will work and whether she is actually presenting from Perth or Sydney?
Max and Tiff both away in Adelaide tonight.
Josh Webster presented sport, Brett Clappis presented the lunchtime update and did live crosses showcasing all the local colour from the WOMAD launch night but strangely Kate read the actual weather.
Kate presented the bulletin from Adelaide tonight. No interaction between her and Josh though due to the single green screen.
Visually it looked almost identical - desk shot looked slightly different though.
Ah thank you both, the nickname threw me off.
Ah, that would explain the lack of crosses to/from sport. Pity they can’t get a proper presentation area but it’s still better than the Melbourne option.
They should consider outside/on location broadcasts when Kate is in Adelaide - might help promote the bulletin.
Watch Monday 5pm Perth time. All will be revealed.
For what it’s worth in us putting two and two together, Natalie also posted on Instagram “Thanks Sydney- it’s been a blast.”
News from Perth almost 100% now. Good to see local news slowly returning - Queensland won’t probably change.
Saturday (11.03.2023): Queensland sports reporter Veronica Eggleton is in Sydney this weekend to read sport for the national bulletin.
I’m actually surprised that presentation might be going back to Perth- I genuinely thought Perth would be the last market to potentially change and go back to fully local.
That said Sydney/Queensland has got to change come the end of daylight savings if they’re doing local presentation for Perth. Either Brisbane presentation comes from Perth or they go back to Brisbane…. Seems 10 almost have the resources now to do presentation for all markets locally, albeit on the cheap, with even Adelaide being presented from Adelaide when it suits Kate.
What changed… I suppose 10 have got rid of most of the expensive pre Covid talent now but since then did they invest in some new tech or a better comms deal etc to actually deliver more local presentation on the cheap?
I think there are a number of factors, some as you said.
Presenters would be one. All cheap, no big names for these new bulletins.
Equipment upgrades. Post-covid I will assume prices are a bit more feasible, plus simple set-ups without the need for lots of crew anymore. Casual staff. Will be interested to see how Perth handles it.
Plus, I think that when bidding for sporting rights, instability within the news department/network would’ve been a factor against 10.
Heck, if Paramount were willing to spend $1b+ on sporting rights, perhaps they figured a small cash injection into news can help increase ratings.
It would be interesting to see if they decide trial other bulletins (late news) as a replacement for some of their low rating shows.
Ten Late News with Hamish McDonald was great.
It’s only a matter of time.
From what I understand, presentation from Perth with Nat is not a permanent change.
Read into that what you will, but more will be known in coming days I believe.
Charlotte Goodlet was the backup presenter for Perth, and likely to resume the position when she returns from maternity leave.
Is Charlotte permanently based in Sydney?
lol Ten News is such a mess.
Has been for some time now.
Which part exactly? The part where the female presenter gets to keep her job just cause she’s on maternity leave?
Ain’t an ideal situation, but for the average viewer not much changes. News still comes on at 5pm each night without fail.
