Congrats to Mike Larkan

Heard his interview on Triple M’s hot breakfast this morning & he’s on 3AW radio this aftwrnoon.

Mike is the longest continually serving weather presenter in Melbourne (in fact, he took over from David Brown who is now at Seven). 1995. He’s always been called ‘weatherman’.

^Due to Livinia Nixon not presenting weather on Nine until the early 2000s & David Brown did start in Melbourne before Mike, BUT had a couple of years (until just recently) not appearing on Seven’s 6pm News.

Well done Mike! Someone at Ten who still remains in his original position (same with Tim Bailey)…

I’m pretty sure that Mal is happily retired now.

As for Mike Larkan, I’m pretty sure that he originally presented weather in Canberra for several years before moving to Ten Melbourne.

Yes He most certainly did.

He grew up in Sydney I think, travelled around the world and settles back as a weather presenter at then Capital TV in Canberra.

Yes I was right. Mike Larken said on 3AW radio, that he grew up in Western Sydney near Bankstown (Guildford?)

Great to see Paul Bongiorno filing some stories the last couple of nights, I feel he always adds a little bit of authority to his reports & the bulletin overall.

That sport reporter Bernard Choen… Sounds THE SAME as former Melbourne senior sport reporter Ian Cohen.

Ian is also an MC with the Australian Open and yes, he was the one who caused controversy last year.

Tim Bailey is a very eccentric weather presenter…to say the least!

He’d probably be a great weather presenter in a regional market or something, but I think most Sydneysiders do prefer weather presenters who read the forecast straight rather than those who rattle on about holiday photos and other mostly irrelevant topics for three minutes. How Ten has stuck with him despite sacking so many other talented presenters/reporters is completely beyond me.

Bailey was actually great until they canned his location shoots… His eccentric style was fine outdoors but it is like watching a nightly aerobics routine in the studio. Whack him on the roof or something.
