Did Chris present the east coast bulletin last weekend?
If so, I’d probably say it is.

It’s a good idea for that market, and she’s very popular.
If you’re talking about Perth, the idea of having a local weekend bulletin produced from Sydney is.
I can remember the late Charmaine Dragun presenting a local weekend bulletin on 17 September 2005 - the day the West Coast Eagles qualified for that year’s AFL Grand Final.
I personally think presenting the WA weekend editions of 10 News First is a step backwards for Narelda Jacobs, when as recently as 5-6 months ago she was their main newsreader in Perth on weeknights.
Whatever happened to the idea of Narelda moving to Sydney being a boost for her profile on a national basis?
wouldn’t that be through Studio10
I dunno, I reckon she’s pretty happy with it and I daresay she might’ve been one of the reasons why they decided to go with her to present the weekend news for Perth.
National profile as a panelist on Studio 10
Presenting and reporting on the road for Studio 10, usually on issues she is passionate about.
Joining the Sydney News reporting / presenting team and national news updates opportunities
Presenting local Perth news to keep in touch with West Australia(ns) which she’s passionate about.
Continued media opportunities like co-hosting Mardi Gras / Australia Day ceremonies on SBS.
Doesn’t sound like a bad gig
She might be the weekend presenter but surely you wouldn’t discount her role on Studio 10 as a panelist and roving reporter? I would like to think that’s equally as good as the weeknight presenter role in Perth when added together, not to mention raising her national profile at the same time.
Didn’t you imply this was a step back when it was first announced as well before it was quite clearly explained that it wasn’t?
Raising her national profile and therefore her seniority as a presenter with the network is better career progression than anchoring the same local weeknight bulletin for years on end, especially if 10 decide to expand news again in the future (I have no doubt that a theoretical new bulletin, either morning or evening would be hers to have, it’s not like 10 has a ton of excellent presenters warehoused as they did in the good old days).
I don’t agree with that. In Sydney alone, they have Chris Bath, Natasha Belling, Narelda Jacobs, Hugh Riminton, Lachlan Kennedy and Sandra Sully who would all be capable of presenting their own bulletin, right now without practise. If anything, they don’t have enough bulletins to fully utilise the talent.
Narelda presenting Perth separate bulletin tonight again.
Looks to be a permanent thing. I’m wondering what’s changed, why this wasn’t considered when she made the move to Sydney? Especially if they were already doing a separate bulletin for Perth.
I think they should do some promos for Perth promoting that she’s doing weekends if it’s to continue, maybe replace Chris with Narelda in all the promos and pictures etc.
Surely this is just for the duration of the pandemic?
What’s the pandemic got to do with her presenting the Perth edition on weekends?
A more up to date news service for those in the West during the crisis…Presented by a familiar face?
Chris was previously presenting a West edition before the crisis as well.
Weren’t they already getting a local up to date news presented by Chris Bath? The only addition here is Neralda. Not necessarily because of Coronavirus.
Apologies I worded that bit about updated news wrong but what I mean is this arrangement with. Narelda has started since the pandemic really took hold in Australia.
I’m not drawing that long of a bow to suggest it’s only a temporary scenario.
Perhaps Chris is unable to stay the extra two hours required currently due to her iso arrangements?
Is Narelda doing her Studio 10 duties still?
Yes, but obviously reduced to compensate.
Possibly because there’s less opportunity at the moment with what’s going on in the world for Narelda to be an “on the road” reporter for Studio 10?
This would absolutely be the biggest factor. She’ll probably be presenting weekend Perth news until she’s able to take a field assignment for Studio 10 - pending lots of external circumstances.
Monday 13 April-
Caty Price is presenting news updates in Melbourne this afternoon.
