Diversity in what way? Of thought perhaps?

Figures, she starts on Studio 10 Jan 13 so finishing up Friday gives her a month to relocate to Sydney.

Monika Kos Joins 10 News First Perth

Network 10 is thrilled to announce that acclaimed Western Australian journalist and presenter, Monika Kos, will join the team at 10 News First Perth from January 2020.

Monika will present the weekday bulletin alongside sports presenter Tim Gossage and weather presenter Michael Shultz, bringing West Australian’s the best of local, national and international news coverage.

One of Perth’s most trusted and respected journalists, with an illustrious career spanning more than 20 years at the helm of Today Tonight , Monika is excited to take on this new role.

Monika said: “Narelda has been the face of 10 News First Perth for over a decade and I’m proud that she has been given this opportunity on Studio 10 to showcase her talent to the rest of Australia. As a fellow West Australian, it’s an honour to be filling her seat and to be entrusted with such an important role.

“I look forward to immersing myself in a newsroom that’s as enthusiastic and passionate about reporting issues that matter to Perth as I am. Whether reporting on local, interstate or international events, it will be a privilege to be part of a team that delivers them to you first. It’s a new chapter for me and I cannot wait to join the team.”

Much loved and admired 10 News First Perth presenter, Narelda Jacobs, will depart the desk this Friday, 13 December, and cross the border to her new role with Studio 10.

Narelda said: “I’m so pleased to be handing over the baton to Monika, a journalist I’ve respected since I was a broadcasting student at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. I sat in awe of her as she motivated my class to pursue a career in journalism. Over the years, she’s inspired generations of reporters and she’ll continue to help lead an experienced and talented newsroom at 10.”

Network 10 Perth Sales Director & General Manager, Paul Townsend, said: “At an extremely exciting time for 10, off the back of the recent ViacomCBS merger, we are further consolidating our presence in the local Perth market.

“10 News First Perth has been a staple for so many West Australians over a long period of time. Having Narelda lead part of this brilliant broadcast team put us in a very fortunate position, but as she tackles new adventures with Studio 10 we are looking forward to having Monika join the team in Perth. Monika brings with her almost 30 years of editorial experience and will be an important addition to an already impressive and successful news team.”

Network Director of News Content, Ross Dagan, said: “Narelda’s shoes are big to fill, but we’re confident that Monika is the perfect fit. It’s rare to have an opportunity to replace Narelda’s experience with such an outstanding presenter in a market like Perth where I know local knowledge is vital to our audiences.

“Monika knows Perth intimately. She’s been passionate about connecting with the community over almost three decades. Her knowledge and insights into the issues that matter to the people of WA can only add to our exceptional team. Across news, sport and weather we will maintain an incredibly formidable team.”

Narelda Jacobs will commence with Studio 10 on 13 January, 2020 and Monika Kos will join 10 News First Perth in January 2020.

I didn’t see this coming at all. Massive coup for 10 News First Perth. 10 News First Perth won’t be the same without Narelda.

She has been with the station since 2000 and has presented the 5pm news here in Perth since 2008 when the bulletin moved from Sydney to Perth.

Narelda is irreplaceable. But they needed a big name and good to see that is Monika. I’m keen to see how she goes at newsreading…

I suspect the signing was made before the Studio 10 move was announced.

They dumped Narelda? Never thought of it like that. I was going to ask why Studio 10 didn’t hold off on the announcement. That would answer that question…

Na I’d say they weren’t going to move Narelda until they had a replacement as opposed to looking for one afterwards.

They only “allowed” Marelda to move when they had signed a replacement worthy of the position.

Yeah I don’t think she was dumped.

To say that the appointment of Monika Kos is a major coup for the Perth version of 10 News First is an understatement.

Agreed. 10 News First wouldn’t have dumped Narelda, especially since she’s a major representation of more than one minority group on Australian commercial TV.

If anything, I’d probably wonder if 10 News First Perth thought about signing up Monika Kos before Seven decided to axe Today Tonight. How else can you explain Seven’s reasoning for letting Monika go but deciding to keep Rosanna Mangiarelli in Adelaide?
