Take a look at 10 News First TikTok here
10 News First Melbourne seem to be ignoring the Victorian Fire threat. At least in the first 15 minutes of the local bulletin.
Deploying a news crew late Friday afternoon and having no access to helicopter vision might be difficult. But surely they could do a live cross to their newsroom.
Currently the Lead story on both Seven and Nine.
This is a constant issue raised several times in every state. 10 don’t have access to aerial footage unless from the traffic chopper, so half the time, stories like this just get ignored if they come too late in the afternoon. It is also the last day before the break and the national bulletin so they could have just slacked off and not bothered.
I’m not convinced it was ‘too late’. There was a fire warning out this morning
I’m in Hawaii, so I’m unsure of what the weather is like in Melbourne, but if warnings were issued, they should have been across it and had a crew on standby. Given how stretched the newsrooms have been with the recent redundancies and others quitting, they probably didn’t have a crew.
It also doesn’t help that when 10 wanted to negotiate to re-enter the pool for the Chopper feed in some states; Seven tried to charge them a ridiculous amount, so obviously, 10 walked away. Even without the chopper feed, they should have had it as the lead and a live x even to the newsroom, as mentioned.
Just another reason why 10 can’t be trusted with news.
Weird that they didn’t mention it when they crossed to Jayde live in the 10 first minutes of the bulletin.
Instead: “We spoke to a [Melbourne Airport] spokesperson earlier”
After 20 minutes they crossed back to her and had footage
I want to scream! Why is she doing weather from the airport?
I wonder if Seven or Nine (where Andrew Lund worked at previously) interviewed him as well?
Yes Nine did - he appeared on Today this morning.
Don’t a lot of weather stations operate at airports?
Ashleigh wished everyone a Merry Christmas for the final Late News of the year.
“We’ll be going on a short break over the holidays but will return in the new year with Ursula Heger back in the chair.”
Yes, but given the actual focus of the story and the bushfires, I think 10 should have changed gears and not have sent Jayde.
Summing up from Yesterday, 10 News First Melbourne should have lead with breaking news on the Victorian Fire front, especially when most of Melbourne was being pocketed with a smoke cloud.
As I mentioned, they could have crossed to the newsroom for a live report, a graphic map could have easily be implemented. 10 also had access to smoke footage affecting the Melbourne skyline.
The next two weeks will be interesting to see how they go covering news.
Fair to assume Perth will continue to receive its own bulletin?
A new floor would give a little rejuvenation into this set. The join lines between the panels never looked good.
Sport came from somewhere else. Josh Webster?? Adelaide or Melbourne??
Adelaide. Same as last Christmas i believe?
