I meant the people still there being overworked and short staffed.
I think youâll find that is the case in most networks across most departments
Well they do a very good job hiding it. Itâs always 10 in the news with these issues. You donât really hear about the others very much. Itâs a rarity really compared to all the dire news coming out of 10 all the time.
Theoretically a new automated system should make things easier for those still working.
Whatâs the problem though?
The Afternoon News seems to be ratting reasonably okay for 10 from the last numbers I saw.
And the 3 staff members going was always on the cards, as theyâre potentially upgrading the studio to a remote control system.
UhhâŚ. Thereâs been numerous rounds of redundancies across Seven and Nine reported over the last few yearsâŚ
The article says theyâre always short staffed. I was just offering suggestions to address that and ease the stress.
Yes I know that but my point is theyâre not nearly as publicly known and discussed as much as the happenings at 10 all the time. Thatâs why I said itâs a rarity because compared to 10 you hear about this from 10 all the time.
10 have always typically batted above the average when it comes to output from the smaller teams they have, as the article says âdoing more with lessâ has always been how theyâve operated.
I have sources who have/still work at WIN and Seven NSW (Prime).
While theyâre regional, the conditions are definitely far less ideal than a âshortstaffedâ metro newsroom.
I agree, 10 always cops a lot of flack that Seven and Nine donât get no where as much of.
But yet itâs 10 we are always hearing about. Thatâs my point. Somehow 7 and 9 manage to keep their laundry in their closets more than 10.
Well the networks arenât comparable in their operational model. 10 is a different structure and thatâs why youâre always hearing about it
10âs cuts are more cyclical, itâs not a case of if but when.
Also probably plenty of disgruntled people there or previous employees happy to speak out when this sort of thing happens.
Weâve recently seen some big headlines about big job losses at Seven and Nine including journos on strike, news presenters sacked at the hairdresser, so this seems less by comparison and not likely to make it out of trade publications.
They already switched to automated cameras when Studio 10 finished, they kept a jib op for those wide shots etc. shrinking studio staff is a common occurrence sadly. They may be trying to use the new cameras for better movements etc on stored movements
There are cuts unfortunately around the country and not just Sydney.
What else is left to cut?
I guess overseas correspondents, given they could just rely on CBS & Channel 5 resources.
Possibly studio crew in Melbourne if they arenât already automated.
There are no resources from Ch5, given the news service is outsourced to ITN.
That reminds me. Jade posted a video a few weeks ago and it appears the cameras are the automated ones now.
I mean use footage, etc from Channel 5 news. Surely they would have rights to the content since they are owned by the same networks, even though ITN makes the news.
