Ten News First Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

10 can’t really afford to drop the two news bulletins as they provide much needed local quota points after the axing of Studio 10.

From the article, 3 job losses in Sydney. Not great but at least it doesn’t impact the current bulletins.

Does the local quota have to be news though?

Permanent role redundancies often get replaced with getting casuals as needed, whilst staff may be departing they could still be getting people on short term contracts, casual basis to help where needed etc.

Still not great for everyone at 10.

Also from the article (the image)

“Network 10 Sydney set with sports presenter Matt Burke, who is set to soon depart the network, along with the studio crew

Is it possible that they could be moving to some robotic cameras over Summer, given that @Tvjunkie mentioned the flooring and studio were being upgraded in December? Hence the job losses?

It doesn’t, but it’s probably one of the cheaper options.

Aren’t those two separate points? Very well could be happening though.

Given the picture includes the old Studio 10 standing presentation area it appears to be quite old.

Matt’s departure is separate yes, but the comment on studio staff leads me to believe work is happening behind the scenes to automate the studio.

The latest cuts are believed to target staff in Studio Operations at 10’s offices in Pyrmont in Sydney where it is believed 3 people have been impacted

They could move to a robotic system and just bring in studio staff on a casual basis for big events such as elections etc.

Surely two cheap cooking or lifestyle shows where they can also repeat them is better than this? The team must be so exhausted and for what? No one is watching.

If I remember correctly from some numbers @TV.Cynic pulled, wasn’t the 3.30PM bulletin rating quite competitively in that timeslot?

Of course, but I’m saying I think you’ve misinterpreted the caption on the image used.

Matt is pictured (soon departing) along with the studio crew, I personally don’t think it’s alluding to anything.

Against Tipping Point UK and The Chase UK? No way that’s true. Surely not.

I think you have answers it.

It sounds like these 3 staff members won’t be required.

Nicholas, we might not see your epic camera shots going forward.

Yup. Would have to be cheaper than producing two bulletins no one watches and it would solve the issue about the staff shortages. Focus on 5pm and late news. It’s obviously not working the way they’re doing it now.

News is much cheaper. Basically they’re just running the same resources that are already allocated for the 5.00pm news.

A cooking show would require greater investment in production. It also needs to be new content.

Explains why the new floor was needed. You can’t have robocams operate on floors that aren’t 100 level

Well I dunno what the answer is then. All I can say is these people deserve better.

How about all the jobs that were lost at Seven and Nine from them moving to robotic cams years ago? 10 is just catching up.
It’s a cost efficiency. Let’s hope they can divert these long-term savings into other roles in the future.
