Ten News First Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

Looks like some upgrades have taken place on Friday/over the weekend in Melbourne, as the control system for Afternoon and Late news are outputting titlecards in HD now. Majority of stories are still in low-quality SD though.

Will keep an eye on the 5PM bulletin too. Might be worth checking Perth/Adelaide to see if there is a noticable increase in titlecard quality.

I thought someone mentioned that the title cards were in HD from the start for both?

Did anyone notice the changes to the Brisbane bulletin last night?

Sandra didn’t interact with Josh at all. Cut to title card then straight to Josh talking during both weather segments.

Didn’t chat with Chloe for sport before the ad break. Came back from ad break straight to Chloe. Little chat with Sandra at the end though.

Last weather update Josh and Sandra didn’t end the bulletin talking. As soon as Josh was done it cut straight back to Sandra farewelling viewers.

Every “cut” is just so awkward and clunky.

Hypothetically, this could be rectified during daylight savings when Sydney moves one hour ahead of Queensland, thus allowing Sandra Sully to present both the Sydney and Brisbane bulletins live (though she may need to pre-record either the Sydney closer or the Brisbane opener so as for these to not overlap).

Something for Ten to think about in the coming months…

Ooorrrrrr Sharyn, Veronica and Burty can do local news :joy:

That is another option but as I’ve explained in other threads it’s not as simple as just hiring the presenters, though I do strongly agree that Sharyn Ghidella would be a nice fit for 10 given she did spend some time there prior to joining Channel Nine in the 90s.

There are other logistics to consider including converting the studios and infrastructure to HD standards, which come at a significant cost. That was why the Adelaide and Perth bulletins came out of Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, in the noughties.

Also gotta feel for the Sydney presenters who at this time of year have to present/report on Queensland Origin stories as well…

what’s the relevance of her having worked there 30 years ago?

Brisbane kept going during all that time, did they ever get any upgrades? or was it just run into the ground?

Could be worse, they could have lost their jobs like many others did.

I guess the last time they got a upgrade was probably around 2011 during the news revolution era and before all the budget cuts.

Jennifer Keyte also worked at Ten in the 80s, before moving to Seven for two stints on either side of a brief one with Nine. So for her, it was a “homecoming” when Ten hired her for her current role in 2018.

I know they got a set upgrade in 2004, replicating what Melbourne had at the time, and then again in 2011 as part of the Ten News Revolution.

Last upgrade in Brisbane was 31/08/2015

Last technical upgrade was probably around 2011 though (i.e. studio cameras, control room, etc)

I thought the last technical upgrade would’ve been slightly after the Eyewitness News relaunch. I remember the supers/titlecards started animating/transitioning properly unlike launch day.

She’d need a good contract, I’d hate to see another Monika Kos situation, Perth newsroom shuttered just months after she moved to 10.

Also, if/when a local Brisbane bulletin is reinstated, sufficient notice needs to be given to the viewers/audience.

I remember back in March 2023, when local production of the Perth bulletin resumed, it was announced at very short notice.

Hey don’t watch us now cause we’re not local but watch us in three months when we are local?

Promote it to the max once the product is there and maybe some teasers a week or so before but I wouldn’t say anything too far out to viewers (though you might want to promote to advertisers earlier if you had something locked in).

Saw this on a Melbourne newsbreak during MasterChef grand final tonight.

Jennifer Keyte said: “a massive police operation closed down parts of Prahran (in inner Melbourne)”.

The caption spelt Prahran as Perrone

Sydney opened with the SOO result.

Brisbane didn’t though it was maroon.

Report came later.

No 3:30 news today. Possibly due to the Microsoft outages?
