Ten News First Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

Weather is definitely live to both markets. Not a great way to end the bulletin.

Yeah I would :joy: I was thinking that she would be replaced by Hugh (or someone) on 5pm if it happened though, so she wouldn’t be working any extra hours

Whose concerns.

I suppose the bigger concern is more what it does to the Sydney bulletin to have to accommodate the Brisbane opt-outs. Writing off Brisbane is one thing, but Melbourne’s bulletin got a lot better once it returned to being fully local, and I think got a bit of a boost in ratings afterwards, though Adelaide’s never seemed to recover (and now we don’t get that data at all).

The concerns of the Daily Mail when they republish half of the posts in this thread.

Ursula is a great presenter, but the bulletin won’t rate because it:

  • isn’t local (no PoD to the others)
  • isn’t live
  • doesn’t have HYBPA/ Cheap Seats/ Gogglebox as the lead-in
  • doesn’t have a big name (like Sandra) to draw people over to 10

Exactly, but this is 10 who think their USP is putting the bulletin on 10 Play thirty minutes before broadcast so :man_shrugging:t3:

Yes to all above but especially live and local. Don’t bother if they don’t do that. No point of difference.

  • Won’t be promoted except in the odd promo with other bulletins

  • Highly unlikely to have a regular fixed start time

  • Will probably come from the Adelaide Green Screen studio

10 News First Melbourne paid a short tribute to Nathan Templeton at the end of the sports report with kind words from both Jen and Stephen.

Adelaide background in Melbourne???

Adelaide news for Wednesday 10th was presented by Alan Murrell. Presumably from Adelaide not Sydney?

If they’re splitting their time between a shoebox studio in Sydney and a shoebox studio in Adelaide they might as well just keep it in Adelaide.

Sydney really just accommodates Kate being based there now, no? As well as having a presenting position for her when returning from Maternity leave.

I guess they thought the trade-off from it being read out of Sydney was worth it to have Kate return to the bulletin as a local and familiar face.

yeah, so odd. Like sorry Kate the Adelaide job in in Adelaide? You’re there often enough to visit you beach house so make the switch or free it up!

I meant that in a way in which they wanted Kate to present the bulletin, and as such the network accommodated her being now based in Sydney because it was possible.

They absolutely could’ve gone with someone else based there and made it somewhat easier for them to do it all out of Adelaide (presentation at least) but they clearly wanted her.

They started with Kate because she’s the most recognisable Adelaide personality they have, so they thought she could of been a big drawcard to the bulletin.

If 10 had more money, the should of gone and get Jess Adamson to read the bulletin.

What time is the news on?

Funnily enough with the set up they’ve got now in Adelaide since they left Hutt St - only one tiny presentation area (with a fixed camera?) - the Sydney/Adelaide presentation is almost better - at least it allows interaction between presenters.

If possible, they could try to re-arrange space to fit a news set. They did the same with Hutt St (Was built when news was from Melbourne in the 2000s, so had to create space for a studio).

Apparently they’ve done the sport preview from the newsroom (where they do daytime updates), so they could just do sport from there.
