Ten News First Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

That could be the case (which I don’t really think is a big deal), but could also just be a random coincidence. My work place often changes screen savers/backgrounds at random times. Was it the same today?

There’s small text on the screen… looking like BGInfo… which iirc the info would drop off the screen if you change the wallpaper after log on, and won’t appear again before logging off. Probably just wallpaper of the week across the (IT) network?

Your work is not a multi national with a news broadcast news service promoting a paid streaming service during a news report, I’m guessing?

My work does the same, not really relevant though. It’s clearly an attempt of additional promotion during news.

I don’t care that much, just interesting, and I think it look a bit cheap personally.

Nine only own a percentage of Stan.

100% since they acquired Fairfax

Meh, look closely enough and you can see Paramount logos during the weather cross in the 3.30 news among other logos that seem to be scattered around the newsrooms now. I don’t have a problem with it personally, they are the parent company & corporate brand. Bigger issue is that those logos make that newsroom shot look hideous and distracting.

Meanwhile, Kate is presenting Adelaide’s lead story tonight from the Garden of Unearthly Delights (Fringe) with dancers performing in the background.

I like that they’re doing news on location but dancers are just little too tacky for the opening segment. Getting the impression Fringe have kicked in some money for the on location broadcasts, they’re also seen as a sponsor on some segments.

There is a difference in having a logo on computer desktop backgrounds and having content discussing the programs on a streaming service which often happens on Today.

Bit different if it was just in the back of a shot, rather than in your face product placement like that IMO.

I don’t think it has a place in a news broadcast the way it’s been done, but that’s just my opinion.

I’m guessing it was probably just poorly thought out (or someone put the screen on the wrong thing) rather than deliberate product placement, but I can see how it could come across that way and take your point.

Unfortunately, they don’t seem to have much to work with in that newsroom/office.

Interview on today’s 5pm bulletin

I think this was the same interview shown at midday.

Yeah they showed a little preview at the end of Afternoons too, wasn’t mentioned that it was an exclusive however.

Oh, OK. It was at the start of my Entertainment Tonight recording so didn’t see how long it was.

This is not news.. The Project should be used for this type of content.

Midday and Afternoon both featured a cross to Hugh Riminton today.

Wouldn’t be opposed to them presenting Afternoon from a similar location to Hugh’s cross, except with a more “newsy” backdrop instead of Paramount and 10 promotions.

Entertainment news is news, what’s wrong with an interview?

If it was the top story that would be a different story. Breaks up the monotony of the depressing news, a little light hearted chat every now and then is not a bad addition to the bulletin IMO.

Once a lounge is seen on a news bulletin all credibility is lost. It’s not a good look if they want to be taken as a serious news service.

Fair. So if the interview was from a desk, it could’ve passed as somewhat credible?

And by that admission, we can’t take Sunrise, Today, News Breakfast etc seriously because sometimes they present interviews from a couch?

I understand they’re not news bulletins as such, but they still aim to deliver news and inform people. Not far removed from a bulletin most of the time.

Angela doing a package on the awards season is fine. Doing a memorial for a celeb is fine. Covering Taylor Swift is fine. But celeb interviews and press junkets for movies don’t fit on the 5pm news. I actually find it a bit jarring when I see 10 do this. The problem is that 10 has an excellent Showbiz reporter on the books but don’t have a platform for her.
