I don’t think this is the best course of action, but no amount of keyboard warriorness will undo their decision… so you get on board and look for the positives.
1 - no on the road reporters are being retrenched.
2 - there will still be local stories in the bulletin, and even now on 2, 7 and 9, they air the same national and international reports from the same journalists in each market.
3 - I would expect Melbourne to get a new set to match most of Sydney’s - this would align all bulletins around the country with the same look without any local tweaks, providing a uniform news service.
4 - while this is further than I thought management would ever take it, the only mart step is axing the entire service… something they can’t do with the current government regulations in place.
Get on board or get out of the way. Constant negativity and constant dismissal of anything they do will not change their minds and only serve to further prove this forum can’t do anything other than cirticise.
Nobody knows (maybe expect @lexington with some inside info) how these bulletins will be done come mid next month, so how about we wait until the new format is in use before jumping to assumptions about what the bulletin will or won’t be.
Fact is, even if the new look bulletin is not presented from each state, local news will still remain, no one is saying any different. It’s not ideal, but 10 is hardly reinventing the wheel here - other countries have had formats like this in play for a while.
But, as I said in the centralisation thread that everyone missed - 9 manages to air several bulletins from the one control room, with breakout windows for each market.
Whenever Toowoomba has a local story, Cairns does too. When it’s a national / state story they air it at the same time.
Stop being so linear in your thinking. There is technology available to have one control room and multiple bulletins going out.
Yes, there can only be one live at a time - but stop thinking linear.
I do have a soft spot for Ten, but you’re probably right though. Most people really don’t expect much from 10 news these days. People’s expectations aren’t that high compared to the likes of 7, 9 and the ABC.
Merging local news, most likely won’t change people’s perceptions of 10 News. Unfortunately, the general public see 10 News First as weak and under resourced news brand. Such a shame.
