Ten News First Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

Each to their own!

Can see a clear amped up effort on YouTube and social media from 10 news. Seems to be at a national level, not local how we. But is great. Long long long overdue but good to see.

Now they need to lush to their YouTube and FB channels much more during the bulletins and updates

Agree, the “traditional” breakfast show of a guy, gal, weather wall & sports is covered. Today sunrise and breakfast are all the same thing. (Breakfast just a less commercial take)

I’d never suggest 10 try a “breakfast” or “wake up” again.

But a live news show 6-9am

A new young solo fresh talent. Standing on that incredible set tenet set. Live shots of aussie cities on the video wall. A rolling news / headline type format. Live crosses. A focus on news. No book interviews, lifestyle or cooking. Fast / socially aware News that appeals to younger people: social issues, money, tech, travel, environment, sport, weather and traffic for the morning

All driven by a “personality” talent - someone you feel you really wanna wake up with. Kinda like morning express with robbin Meade on HLN in the US

In the meantime they should run the project 6am - 8-8am with a news ticker clock and weather to experiment if there is an appetite for non conventional breakfast show news programming in the
breakfast slot

Below is a local breakfast show from Madrid.

Imagine something like this on the Sydney set. Standing. Clean white fresh. Weather and traffic. News. No fluff. No cooking. But most importantly the right type of news and energy

(See if you can get past the Spanish, it’s really fresh)

BUENOS DÍAS MADRID

LOL! What was that “huddle” they had at the start of the bulletin?? Morale support for the bulletin ahead. Oh the theatrics of news… hahahaha.

Pair up with a radio network at breakfast and make it a visual production.

Wake up with them for breakfast, turn over to the radio for the commute to work. Keep the station on during the day.

10 is best when it does not copy 9 and 7

They failed so hard when they tried to copy sunrise and today and breakfast

First when breakfast then with wake up

I just wish they would do something

Exactly follow a program similar to the AM show in NZ its a great concept.

But that’s a multimedia program for tv and radio, 10 doesn’t have radio assets

so? Nova or Hit could be approached and a deal made…

Though 10 might not think of it for the timebeing, it’s definitely a possibility that can be considered in the long term future should they consider having a go at breakfast again.

In the meantime, 10’s focus should be on cementing their dominance at primetime and expanding their news presence which is sorely needed after the demise of 10Daily.

Thats actually what i would like to see here. Irelands’s RTE news channel does that. Like a podcast news type show. Canada’s CBC does this too. Ill have to double check on the CBC one.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they localise CBSN. Take the basic USA schedule and mix with local inserts. CBS is already doing similar localisation throughout the USA. Good starting point and point of difference.

I don’t think SCA would be in the position to do so, especially with their affiliation regional deal with 9

Have you watched Ireland’s radio show on TV and the CBS does in each city? They are unwatchable.

Do you really think that would be better than a Morning express type format?

CBC stations will either take CBC News Network for an hour in the morning or simulcast their local morning radio show from CBC Radio One. At least one CTV Two (think secondary markets) affiliate has partnered with a local private radio station to simulcast their morning show.

Back some years ago, RTE News Now had Morning Edition, something more akin to News Breakfast and TVNZ Breakfast. It was fairly decent for 3 hours in the morning on weekdays. Canned with budget cuts.

CBS? It’s about a mixed bag depending on the O&O. They’ve had to make cuts recently across the network as well, so, one has the right to be worried.

Not sure if 10 stacking up with a radio show is necessarily the best idea unless young hosts actually dig into news much like The Project would - would require a revamp on the partner’s behalf.

I really dislike ideas about 10 contemplating a move into breakfast as a) they won’t do it and b) it’d be a waste of limited resources. The only way I could ever see them doing it again is a bare bones single anchor straight bulletin like the old 6am news, or some sort of chat show like Morning Joe with a couple of anchors talking to guests about news stories - studio bound, no need for reporters or extra news resources.

If they are going to run 9 hour old American news (cbs this morning) they might as well run 12 hour old Australian news (the project)

Add a ticker. A weather flipper. And insert live updates every 30 minutes

I can’t watch the project at nights. But I would totally wakw up to that

Speaking of which, does anyone know the ratings for the CBS This Morning replay on 10 since they moved it up to Studio 10’s lead-in?

(I’m really not expecting much if anything, TBH)

Agree.

Prior to 10 launching Breakfast in 2011, I always thought they should have expanded the Early Morning News from 6-7am to 8am (then 9am) and slowly build the time slot overtime. Similar to how Sunrise first started out in 2003.

Much cheaper and wouldn’t have weighed the network down .
