Ten News First Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

right, and it’s far more economical to do a national show as is

there’s a new show doing 200-300k viewers, that might account for the drop

The only way I could see Ten getting back to breakfast is if they could work out a model similar to what Three do in NZ - and have a show that’s a radio simulcast.

They don’t have a natural partner to work with, but being able to use it on radio and TV would be about the only way to have it local and not be really expensive.

Absolutely. The economics of a national news show would always be better than locals ones. But that doesn’t mean local news shows in the morning would Not be profitable, it’s just no network in Australia has the interest or desire to allocate funds there. There is no need

That said I maintain if today added local “today in Melbourne “ type News shows from 5-7am and then went national with local i Serra at 7 - that would be an investment that might actually benefit them and be a point of difference. They are getting left behind

Not completely true North America is very similar to both Australia and New Zealand, yes I understand national programming is more economical however there are already three established national breakfast tv shows that cover the market, the only way left is local. Kids programming worked back in the day however there are so many ways viewers can access taped programming now days it would never work. Ten has to do something, running re runs is not getting them anywhere. Atleast in WIN Land we get Headline News, not bad prefer the Today Show.

Two ‘current affairs’ exclusive feature stories tonight during the 6pm portion of 10 News First. A lady that lived through the Spanish flu and Chris Bath reporting on a story about an endangered bird. Neither were groundbreaking but good to see a slightly new format and new content that’s more geared towards leading into The Project rather than just repeating the 5-6pm hour.

I just don’t think 10 has any interest to invest funds at breakfast. They got burned twice with breakfast and wake up. They could work with Sky and Win to rebrand Headline News and run that, but no interest. If there was a golden opportunity mid March to may with news demand through the roof - they could have put a headline news type service to air - they chose not to

Everything indicates 10 just has no interest

Running The Project twice 6am-8am adding a ticker, weather flipper and maybe some live news inserts every 30 minutes is another idea

Why go for the crowded market? News Breakfast, Sunrise and Today have that covered. Find something else, as 10 always has and build on that. Then the others will follow.

10 News First randomly started adding news clips to their YouTube page today (originally a Wake Up page judging by the URL). Looks like all previous clips have been removed.

Their social media strategy is progressing, looks good. I noticed the official Instagram account linked to the YouTube is the same @10newsfirst account I previously posted, so seems to be legit - even though it’s temporarily been made private.

Another new style of social media graphics as seen on their Facebook page, but also used on YouTube:

This is well done, this is the type of content they should be producing online, not just upload full stories. These 1:1 Square posts with limited text seems to be the most engaging format online.

Yup, much better than some of the other posts they’ve been making recently with far too much text.

Since they extended into 6pm (at least here in Queensland), they’ve started doing these style reports. I don’t really like them- feels a bit Win TV to me:

Hopefully they can start showing up in the YouTube home page soon - I don’t subscribe to any of the news channels but all but Ten feature on the home page’s Breaking News section:

Weird that Seven (and Ten) don’t get the verified mark, while the other networks do.

Both joined YouTube later than Nine, SBS and the ABC - takes a long time for verification on YT.

7 does them for the Early, Morning and Afternoon news - and I think that’s the same with Nine, and the ABC News Channel. I don’t mind them personally.

Good to see from 10. I guess this is partially the result of 10daily closing?

Good to Go tonight… Josh in Port Douglas.

I don’t watch a lot of daytime news, so I hadn’t noticed. But I prefer the traditional 30 second PTC in the middle of the report opposed to the look-live, one take report that was shown there. Different preferences I suppose.
