Oh god dude. So touchy. Come on. Be objective.
Credit where credit is due and criticism where criticism is due.
10 does many things brilliantly. This ain’t one of them.
You lose credibility when you defend Ten for the things they get wrong.

Peter Overton does a live two minute update on Facebook from the Nine News Sydney desk ahead of the 6:00pm news and it started before this week.
Melbourne Instagram update from the control room.
Pretty good spirit, still need to try harder on technical formatting for socials.
Good talent goes to waste if the content looks wonkish on the phone. That said, Insta has started accepting 16:9 video so… say of that what you will.
You’re only criticism worth responding to is that they’re doing news updates on Facebook. And I’m saying there isnt anything wrong with that.
Well between axed early news, axed morning news, axed late news…
George at 6. George at 630. 90 minute news at 5, local evening news at 630. Local weekend news at 6, two failed breakfast shows and little no no investment in digital platforms or social media in a decade -
I think it’s fair to say 10 News is pretty clueless. they’ve been going around in circles for 15 years now.
They have a gorgeous set in Sydney though. No doubt.
Agreed. Not sure about other markets, but personally I think the news service on Ten here in Sydney is a mere shell of what it was before 2008-09. They probably lost most of the market when Tim Webster, Ron Wilson and Deborah Knight left.
You’ve still failed to tell me of anything that has failed under new ownership.
I understand and appreciate that previously this decade 10 has a poor track record of knee jerk decisions. I understand and appreciate that 10 isn’t growing at the breakneck pace everyone here expected and demanded… but so far they have done nothing but slowly implement a plan known only to Level 5 in Pyrmont…
We are talking about 10 News, not 10
So far under CBS new graphics were rolled out and one city has a new set.
But new graphics are rolled out every 2-3 years regardless of owner
So they got a new set. And it’s stunning and gorgeous and amazing.
But nothing else has been done or rumored.
With people switching off TV one would think 10 News would be investing in digital to push news content out. But no.
Is there something coming we don’t know about? An app, a website, a new social media team? A morning show. A late news? Something? Anything?
This was the lead story in Brisbane tonight:
I’m not sure whether an investigative story was best placed so early on in the bulletin. Especially when there was breaking (developing) news, which I don’t think they even reported on:
With all due respect to the injured boy, the fact there could be no drinking water by Christmas in an area of QLD is much more significant.
People getting hit by cars/buses happens every day - and I don’t mean that cruelly, it’s just you can’t report on every one. It also had been well established (judging by the follow up tweet being posted at 4:30pm) well before air time that the boy was stable.
10 could have aired that report yesterday, tomorrow night or next week. It would have contained the same information and have had the same effect. There were several news items that happened today and were unfolding as they were going to air. It didn’t have to be that injured boy - there was a lot happening in state politics today. The bulletin doesn’t feel current or live (in the absence of a better word) when they do that and that won’t help their ratings.
I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have aired the report tonight. I just don’t think it was an appropriate lead.
I agree with a lot of your points, however you’ve overlooked the following:
Credit where credit is due, they’re definitely making inroads and I daresay trying to avoid mistakes of management past with rushing into anything.
Upfronts are coming soon too, expect more announcements in this space then.
But what about the most important thing of all, the ratings. Is 10 News First getting more viewers than they were this time last year as Ten Eyewitness News: First At Five?
There is a large investment in upgrading equipment etc behind the scenes to I believe.
10 News First Queensland latest update for FB Watch received 87 views
Great points, and yes I can see some effort is being put in no doubt. But many of these things get 10 News back to something that barely resembles a new service. I mean you need anchors, good talent and reporters. New sets and GFX is a mute point - every network does that every few years.
The rebrand has been nicely done, although a missed opportunity to launch other bulletins at 9.30 or such to give meaning to the “First” (like when they launched with ;‘eyewitness;’ but did nothing to back that up.
10 Daily is not a news site per say. I’m not even sure what it is. But it’s not where people go for news. Their lead story is often the bachelor or survivor. It’s a place to create conversation around 10 shows. It’s a great idea - and it’s being done well. But I’m not sure launching another brand separate to the news when you don’t have a new website yet is the best idea.
To have this entire news division newsrooms in 6 cities and produce one hour of news a day just doesn’t seem like smart business sense to me.
If you have this news division - they should be producing more than on hour of TV news and also producing digital content for a website, app, social etc.
Consumption of news on TV Is in major decline.
Consumption of news online and social is growing.
They need to be there.
Is anyone?
I think 10 could potentially launch an 11:30am bulletin perhaps? I don’t think it would hurt to lose half an hour to Studio 10, or move the start time back to 8:00am.
Where they could present it is another question. It might have to come from Melbourne.
No viewers at 11am - if they launch a second bulletin it should be 9-10pm sometime.
