Ten News First Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

Good. I much prefer it like this.

A step in the right direction IMO.

What Ten needs to do next: Going back to the traditional Titlecard > Headlines > Titlecard 2 > Wideshot > Good Evening + 1st Story Intro Opener!

So like all other news bulletins then. Why can’t 10 be different when it looks good?

Having presenters on screen during the headlines didn’t work for Seven News Sydney and neither does it work on 10 News First.

says who? I like it, and loved the 7 news version

Because @SydneyCityTV said so!

If having the presenter on-screen for the entire Opening Headline segment was so successful for Seven News Sydney in 2014-15, don’t you think they’d still be doing it now?

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Opener style Ten ran with prior to 1/11/2018 and I’m sure it could still work with the current On-Air Presentation package.

Sandra Sully presented national news update tonight during MasterChef.

Thats your opinion. I agree with @TheHubMan I loved the 7 news sydney opener. the traditional style opener is so dated. The presentation should evolve, not be stuck in the past.

While I agree, there is such a thing as too much evolution at once though. Even more than six months later, there are still some elements of the On-Air Presentation at 10 News First that I’d think need major tweaks & revisions.

Gonna have to pull you over for this one. Traditional openers in Australia were either
Headlines > title card > first story or
Title card > headlines > first story and only adapted a second title card in the 90/00’s.

I don’t think it suited Fergo’s lopsided presentation style. I think also 7 stuffed it up by making it a long opener rather than a quick, faster paced opener that style oozes out. The thing how 7 put in the script ‘7 News starts now’ is really good but the opener was like a minute, it should’ve been way quicker if they used this style. Implementation and success aren’t the same thing. NBC did it for a hot minute, but there’s was implemented better.

Basically saying, 10NF is meant to be a brand for the news first, their opener should display that and the opener they use kinda displays that

Fair point, but I’m pretty sure Ten was doing Titlecard > Headlines > 2nd Titlecard > Wideshot (initially with “Also tonight…” stories but these were phased out when it became trendy to have more than three headlines at the start) > First Story Intro type Opener since at least the dark blue mid/late-2000s graphics. Well over a decade.

I agree. The original short, sharp openers were great! From open to first story in 30 seconds, like this:

I like the fact that 10 used this type of opener I just wish they were a bit more fast paced as Sandra can often drag it on a bit.

Is the last update during B&B at 4.55 or something like 4.59? I would just as much have a longer tease there and then a straight jump to the open as was the case when Mosart ate dust the other day.

I haven’t really watched Ten during B&TB for a while now, but I believe the final update before the bulletin is 4.53pm or sometime around then.

Well as per the advice of a live cross on 10 News First Sydney tonight, I check channel 10 and 10daily for the first pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex new son. They said that Meghan requested a CBS camera in to film the viewing and as CBS own Ch10 we would see it first on 10daily.

I’ve looked and I’ve looked but can’t see anything. 7 and 10 seems to be airing it though.

It’s up on 10daily now. 10 minutes late. Must have been very special access CBS had.

Narelda Jacobs presented the east coast update this evening probably due to the possibility of breaking news from the final leaders debate. However, it barely rated a mention.

Would’ve been for the royal baby, not the leaders debate on another network.
